David Clark DC PRO-X, New Noise-Cancelling Aviation Headset

So I have had my David Clark X'11's for just over 5 years now. I initially bought them solely because I didn't want to follow my friends that were at the time all getting the Bose A20's. Needless to say I was a bit unsatisfied as the A20's proved to be the superior product.

Now I think its time for an upgrade. I was looking on DC's website just out of curiosity to see what my X11's are now selling for. I found that they were no longer available and that these http://www.go-dcpro.com/home, DC PRO-X, would be launched in Mid June.

Anybody planning on getting them?
 
There was another thread on these already. I would be very curious to try them to see how they are, but I don't expect much out of DC. The X-11s suck, and DC continues to live in the last century with headset technology, and survive solely on the fact they still make a green headset, that 70 year old flight instructors recommend to students.

This is so true. DC is way behind in headset technology. They don't even warrant consideration anymore.

I've been contemplating getting something besides my DC 10-20's. I don't know if this would be a way to go or not. I'd love some sort of no risk free trial.

I've had my original Zulus for 5 years now with no issues save replacing the ear seals myself once. The backup DCs I have are pretty uncomfortable; I don't know that I could go back to wearing them.

I've not tried the A20 or the Zulu2 but you can pry my original Zulus out of my cold dead hands. They just work, and do so well. If mine died I'd probably go find another pair.

As for these news DCs, it appears to me that if the ANR were to go out or the batteries died you'd have very little protection as they're an on ear and not over ear design. That makes them a no go for me.

I suggest you invest a few bucks in a hammer to drive those nails, you'll find it to be a much nicer experience.

I freely admit that an A20 isn't as durable as a DC (which in technology time dates from the stone age). If you don't mistreat it though, it holds up just fine.

Do you need your smartphone to be capable of pounding nails or do you just take care of it? Do you need to be able to crash through brick walls with your car, or do you just take care of it?

My Bose X went through 6 or so years of hard use with no problems and was still working just fine when I retired it for an A20, which is also working just fine.

I love my Zulu 2s but I love my A20s even more in the Lear. Lighter, lower profile, and I can switch mic sides depending on which seat I am sitting in. Neither have ever let me down. I sent my original Zulus in after 6 years of use maybe 3 times, because each time I ran over the cord with the seat. I wouldn't mind trying the new DC offering but I am already not excited about it, there is no way it could even come close to the top of the line ANR headsets on the market. Hell DC is 3 decades away from offering something to compete with the Bose X and that is about 11 years old or more.

Well if I can keep the reliability then I would happily take the uncomfort. I honestly don't notice much with mine. If they were slightly lighter maybe that be my only comment.
 
Ive had my H10-13.1XL for about five years, only complaint is the battery life on the ANR is minutes when flying a noisy old light twin.

Thankfully the vice clamp passive backup system is built right in!

I like the A20s, they seem to fit better than the older bose headsets, but what can I say, I am a DC loyalist, and besides, I am broke, so my current headset and I are going to just make the relationship work.

Although, I once jumpseated on a FedEx MD-11 where the Capt was wearings DCs. Weird.
 
My zulus were super cheap. Right around $.21 an hour and dropping.
If you can't afford that, are you going to be able to afford the hearing aids in 20 years?

I feel pretty well protected, at least as well as any other headset, by my DC set.
