Man I miss having a purpose. When I interviewed at my current company they asked, "How do you deal with the stress when the airplane malfunctions?"
I answered, "Uh....I'm on an airplane that first flew in the 60's, it malfunctions every time we fly. But it's my job to know everything, to know what to do no matter what's going wrong. Can I fix it? Do we need it? What can I do to continue the flight? We all are very very good at what we do. When something goes wrong, we just press on because it's a part of the job".
I could start an hour long conversation with you about why essential power is on 2, and trust me, it's more in depth than just some mnemonic the training department had me memorize....but that would involve me talking about the time I lost all electricity in Memphis, which would lead to the time I just about flamed out the #2 engine and convinced the crew it was a compressor stall..this we can talk over beers.
