What does it mean to "loiter" an engine, and when/why would you do it?
Loiter means to shut it down for a non-emergency. You do it because it requires a bunch of fuel just to turn the compressor so if you are in a situation flying max endurance or in almost all cases at less than 40K of fuel onboard, your 3 engine max range below 18,000 feet is better than your 4 engine. Add to that the airspeed limit on the tankers due to the tank, we were saving about 800#s an hour.

Just curious if you guys had much luck with Cheltons? We just had our 7th White Screen of Death two days ago and it would be the 3rd failure within the last 4 months!


It's hit or miss. Some airplanes they are bullet proof; some we've replaced cards, GPS and widgets numerous times.

On start up one takes a while to acquire signal, others in 5 seconds.
Overall, I like them because within a soft key, a turn and pressing of the knob you can do almost anything.
 
I was at FTY a lot this summer and then right when I leave they show up! I would have liked to see it in person, but oh well nice pic.
