That lake has looked so inviting these past couple days while doing the King Salmon shuttlePart of my summertime commute![]()
The museum is getting the huge center fuel tank for her later this year. It's shipping by barge through the Panama Canal to Marina Del Rey and then will be trekked along the city streets to the museum. At some point they will either enlarge the current shuttle building or build a new one to have her standing upright and attached to the tank. That will be cool.

I had no idea they were trying to get a pair of boosters as well. THAT would be awesome. Yeah, the building she is in now is pretty piss poor in truth. They could have at least opened up the bay doors and made a stairways on each end of an elevated walkway. This would not have been that expensive either.Yea. When it was announced the news was saying they are hoping to get boosters to, and display it all as it would be ready to launch.
The display as it is now is pretty disappointing. I don't know why they didn't create a 2nd floor balcony so you can see more than just the bottom.
I can see it now.."Here, hide this."just throw your smashed wings between the hanger and the container with the others"

Man, I wish I could afford to fly as much as you do.

If I tell you how much that trip cost you would laugh and never believe anything I say anymore![]()
I guess it helps when you own your plane, huh? Especially one that efficient.
Flying isn't really that "affordable". Its more expensive than driving my truck from A to B.Man, I wish I could afford to fly as much as you do.

It's more about freedom of going nearly anywhere you want too, and goofing around with foreflight and sharing your passion. Young, old and everyone in between.
It does for me a bunch. Pretty much any time I want to go to the Kenai Peninsula it's cheaper to fly than drive. While true in most cases, I think that flying seems a lot more expensive when compared to driving because most people build annual/insurance/hanger or tiedown/fuel into the hourly cost of ownership. If you built all that into the hourly cost of driving the same distance, I imagine the gap would close considerably. Factor in the substantial time savings of flying certain trips and it could tip the scale.
And the views. The wondrous, ever changing, glorious views. It's not the cost, rather the enjoyment out of the experience.
