Dads of Daughters

There is just something about females. Doesn't matter the age either. When you have a son, you feel and see them as more of a pal and a little buddy and someone to have guy experiences with as well as being your child. But with daughters......sigh.....they own you from the first smile.

You feel the need to protect them more and be the Daddy figure for them. They can confuse and perplex the hell out of you. You are terrified when they start becoming interested in boys. They can wrap you around their little finger from the age of 3. lol You want to show them the kind of man they should look for and you want to be that man for them as an example.

When they dress up for you, brag about you to their friends, crawl up into your lap when they are sad and look up into your eyes with that uncertain/trying to be brave look of I am so glad you are here and holding my hand on my first day at school......man, that gives you a lump in your throat and makes your heart melt. They are forever, your little girl.

Great thread. I'm convinced that there is a special and specific place in my heart reserved solely for my daughters. I don't always understand the dramatic and complex bond between us, but the instinctual and unconditional protective father-daughter connection is unmistakable. And when my adult daughters call me Daddy or Papa, I just melt.

You know, when my wife and I first got married I really wanted boys. Two daughters later I can't imagine loving anyone on this earth more than them. They drive me nuts sometimes but I love em.

I feel exactly the same way about my two girls. They can get out of almost any trouble with just being so damn cute and smile.

As someone who has raised 3 girls (27, 23 and 21), I will say the following:

1. They will never be far from your heart.
2. You will have more sleepless nights when they are teenagers then as a newborn.
3. You will be broke for life.
4. No matter how old they get, they will try and sucker you with their "But Daddy" face (Don't fall for this!)
5. They will go after guys who remind them of their dad. So you better like yourself as you will get to see yourself through your daughter's eyes.
6. Finally, you will learn more about women through their lives then you can ever imagine.
