CZQX CPDLC Log-On

New York oceanic here. We never remind anyone to log on, because whether they are CPDLC or not is not our concern, it is not required and I couldn't care less if you are data link or HF. Generally though, CPDLC aircraft get better and faster service. All comm changes are automatically sent out by our system, data link and voice alike.

Thank you all for your replies - very informative. I completely agree with this system's usage in non-radar/non-VHF areas, but you all seem to be echoing what I've thought: it's not incredibly useful when you have 5x5 voice comms with someone.

I'd rather have a textual description of a clearance. Especially when it comes to conditional climbs on the tracks. I think it's highly useful, even in good comm areas.

Tell that to the 60+ CA I just flew with... I probably heard "I don't trust this CPDLC stuff" 5-6 times on the last flight. Nice guy, but apparently he prefers trying to figure out what Fukuoka is trying to say over HF. Ugh.

If they speed it up by 500% and I'm serious, then controllers may really use it regularly in Radar sectors

It's the cats ass for freq changes tho, end up forgetting the VHF only guys sometimes tho

My only other complaint is the increase of "ya still there?"

I've never done one! I'm just fine with a radio call, and sweet sweet silence for 10 hours across the Pacific.

That's got to be nice.

"Annuh boduh got da score on the Cowboys game?"

"YER ON GUAAAARD!"

"Gander... uhhhh...."

"CHECK YUR FREQ!"

...COM 1: de-select
...COM 3: de-select

Or is it COM 2? Ungh, confusing Airbus and Boeing RCP's already.

Left, center, and right, Frenchy!

The only time I ever confirm or advise someone to logon is if they start questioning if we show them connected or if they are doing something incorrect and I am getting the error messages from it.... Then I just tell them so I stop getting the annoying messages...... Otherwise if your HF or CPDLC it makes absolutely no difference to me......
