currency for controllers

I seem to remember reading somewhere that controllers have to practice no-gyro approaches every so often. Today, a tower controller asked us if we wouldn't mind doing a go around "for practice" (which we were happy to do). Are there actually things that controllers have to do to maintain currency, and if so, is calling a go-around an example? Is there a list of things that controllers have to stay current for? Because I'm really curious now.

I asked the same question before. For No Gyro/ASR/PAR approach is about 3 per quarter, if my memory serves me correctly

Currency is 8 or 16 hours in 30 days. Not aware of any requirements outside of that.

There is lots of mandatory refresher training, most of it poorly done. Seasonal weather training, etc.

Obviously, if I'm working at a VFR tower, there's no requirements to do a certain number of missed approaches, or touch and goes, or whatever. Just be signed on position for the required 8 or 16 hours in 30 days.

Simple.
