CTI question

Hello,

Since the word going around is that OTS applicants have a very slim chance of getting controller positions, I have decided to investigate on CTI schools. First off I took the AT-SAT and got a 94.9 and have a BS in Aviation Management. Now I have been looking at Purdues requirements in obtaining the CTI and the classes are as such(www.tech.purdue.edu/at/academics/undergraduate/am_faa_cti.cfm):

AT 100 Introduction to Aviation
AT 106 Basic Aircraft Science
AT 144 Fundamentals of Flight
AT 147/247 Aircraft Systems I and II or AT 187
AT 285 ATC Procedures and Weather
AT 481 Aviation Safety
Additional CTI specific coursework includes:
AT 369 Air Traffic Control (may be used as an AM Selective)

My question is since have basically completed all these classes besides ATC Procedures and Weather and Air Traffic Control, would I be able to transfer my credits and complete the 2 additional classes needed in order to complete my CTI? If anyone has any comments, suggestions, or has been down this road I would appreciate any advice. Thanks

Unless you took them at Purdue, I'd say you would have to contact the department head at Purdue to see what would/would not transfer. I know some schools' credits are worth 1/2 credit at other schools, but you could always talk to an academic adviser and see what they allow to transfer from which schools.

I am at Purdue right now, and am getting a BS in aviation management with a CTI add-on. You have to go through the program and satisfy all of the classes that apply to the major (pro aviation). You can't just get the add-on to my knowledge.

Yeah I was going to give them a call on monday to find out if there is somthing I can workout with them. Im in Michigan and since the nearest school where I can obtain the CTI add-on is Purdue, you would think that there is somthing that could be done so I dont have to retake classes I already took. I am a Aviation Science and Administration major, and I have taken all the classes besides the specific Air Traffic Control classes that are required to obtain the CTI. It sucks that Michigan doesnt offer a CTI program and the nearest school is 3hrs away.

What'd you find out?

I wonder if the FAA has set certain accreditation requirements for CTI schools that'd make transferring credits difficult.

I didnt get a chance to call, however for sure tomorrow. I was doing a little more research and realized that being in the detroit area the two nearest schools, should I choose to go the CTI route, would be Kent State or Purdue, I guess cost will play a big factor, and how many additional classes I would have to take.

Any word yet? I am interested to know about transferring these credits I've already received at Lewis if I were to switch schools. I don't care for their program much...

Well I ended up talking to an advisor from the Minneapolis school, and I was told to send in my transcripts and she would check what other classes would transfer. She said it would still take roughly a year to complete and it would be 3 semesters long starting June and ending in May.

What number did you call? I have been trying to get a hold of them. Did it sound like a person could still get in?
