I saw this article in the LA times. What a job! Mountain flying crop dusting while getting shot at by the cartel. I wonder how much these guys make?:rawk:

What a waste of money. Legalize all drugs and take about a fifth of the money we spend on law enforcement, prison etc and put it toward 100% free rehab to anyone who wants it. That and jack up the penalties on any crimes committed while under the influence. Just like prohibition the war on drugs was lost the day it started.
I can understand only dusting the FARC crops. It's my understanding that a lot of the other crops are grown by subsistence farmers. I know I would gladly grow an illegal drug if it meant my family was able to eat that year.

Lace the drugs with oral contraceptives and you might just have a viable solution there.
Good idea. Rehab has a great success rate and resolves all drug-related problems. Same goes for harsher penalties for DUIs, so yeah, that'll probably solve drug-related crimes too.
Right. The clarion call of people who've either don't understand or are in denial of the destructive nature of drugs. Imagine if we applied the same foolish rationale to, I dunno, murder. Or burglarly. Or rape. Whatever. "If we can't eliminate it, hell, let's just give up and legalize it. Think of the tax incentives!"

I think people who think drugs should be legalized really don't understand society - I see more people in the emergency room suffering from alcohol abuse and the affects of smoking compared to illegal drugs - I hate to think of the destructive behavior if these drugs became legal.
At least the guys that have been shot at on this thread had a plane that could shoot back. Imagine being in a slow little plane with probably no defensive measures. I wonder what kind of weaponry the drug producers have. I imagine it's more powerful than you think.
I don't know what would be worse. Getting killed by these guys or being held hostage by the FARC indefinitely.

The risk has its reward. You're outgunned and at high risk. But, for some if the $$$ are good enough...
