Cool Site - Groundspeed Records

I've done 193 in a 172. Between TUS and ELP.
Not bad...I've been up to 170. 204 in a 182rg. I would still like to call bs on the 152, just because if I accept it the universe will fold over on itself and cause a rip in the space time continuum...just like if you divided by 0.

the fastest GS I ever got in a 152 was 148kts...we were running it wide open to break in the new seals and had a hellacious tailwind.

They need to set a rule that says it has to be in level flight. Descents are cheating ;)

I've seen 211 in level flight in a 200hp Arrow 1.

So what your saying is when this baby hits 88 mph, your gonna see some serious.................

Over 300 knots in a 208? Hmmm

the fastest I got any trainer was a Seminole. 236 over the ground. That was in a dive, almost Vne and I had a big tail wind. Some of the claims on there are a little far fetched.....

The site is pretty good and most of the claims have the GPS/FMS pics to back up the info. It was amazing to see some of the speeds the Commerical aircraft had over the ground.

It's pretty amazing that the record holder on there for commercial aircraft has been out of service for almost a decade and will probably keep that record for a very long time. Kind of sad actually. :(

Wow has been that long all ready? I was sad to see it go but I doubt it would have remained viable in these economic times.

Talked to a Citation X pilot a few months ago who said they were getting 801 on the GS coming back from the west coast. I'd believe it too since those things cruise at mach .9

I'm going to bet that was MPH, not knots. And, you were pedalling because you had nothing else to do with your feet. ;)

Nope. Knots. Got the readout from the Garmin 295. And this one had rudder pedals . But they weren't any good for take off or landing. Still had to use the hand brake if the wing started to pick up on the take off roll.
