Continental found guilty in French court

Airport FOD inspections

I really wanted to post that....I have never before heard that a Concorde departure required a FOD inspection. I watched a pretty extensive PBS (???) special in which one investigator came up with the conclusion that the FOD made the situation worse, but that the real causes were missing spacers, an overweight airplane, a takeoff on a runway not favoring the wind, and maybe some more. Corroborating this was 2 pilots in two separate airplanes who saw the gear smoking before the point in the runway where the FOD was(one later changed his story). But I dont remember hearing about required runway inspections.

IF every Concorde departure required a runway inspection, and this was one where they didnt do it, it is very eerie that the FOD showed up on this departure.

And I'm surprised we dont see more runway inspections at airports. I've seen them more at GA fields than big international airports.

That is all.

I actually typed a very nasty reply but I thought it was giving this ignorant trailer trash waaaaaaay too much importance. This is just plain racist. Do humanity a favor and keep your gene pool to yourself.

I actually kept reading this to myself over and over in a snarky French accent and then slapping myself across the face with a glove.

I'm no expert on the French court system but couldn't this be viewed as a "win" for CAL? I'm thinking The French were hoping that CAL would settle put of court at which time they would get a lot more than $1.5 mil. It seems CAL called their bluff and said let's go to court and the court let the French save $1.5 mil "in face." Like jtrain said, $1.5 million in fines required by a court is nothing for a corporation the size of Cal. The avg person in France picks up the paper sees the "win" and the price tag and thinks, "that's a lot of money!"

For the love of David Hasslehoff, can you guys NOT wreck a thread with non-sequitur bitterness?

I really don't want our forum to degrade into a online newspaper's "Reader Comments" section.

oh be quiet who appointed you.....uh..errr....nevermind

Hey hey hey... I want to see your birth certificate, Boon! I'm not buying the whole Kenyan refugee story I read on WorldNetDaily!

What precedent do you think they set? Outside the U.S. the criminalization of accidents is fairly SOP. U.S. is more of an exception, and only marginally so.

Its not just this case, it is becoming SOP everywhere. But this is a first for aviation as I know it. You know sometimes tragic things happen, Accidents happen. Society continues to criminalize "Humans being Humans", (and to ERR is human), and pretty soon we must all be absolutely perfect or fear jail time....where does it end. That is the far reaching implication of this verdict as I see it.

Post of the week.....:D

oh, hey, speaking of the Hoff...

Just kidding.

You guys realize that a million dollars in damages is less than Continental probably paid to their lawyers to fight this, right?

CAL will pay it, write down the damages in their taxes somehow and go on their merry way and everybody is happy.

There, fixed it for you... ;)
