Complaining about the money

Whaddup brother! Didn't think you'd be up this late!

Whatup man! Our first visitor to our place just left a few minutes ago. My Uncle, who lives in San Diego, is over in Glendale on business and spent the evening with us. Nice to catch up with family.

Did he say, "Dayumm! It's HOTT!" out here!

July and August are the 'bad months' but the rest are very nice.

Oh yeah!! More then once.

He was a bit bummed that he had to drive with the top up once he got into the PHX area. He is a real driving addict.

BTW - Welcome Back.

I was a 5-year Captain at a large regional and was on track to make about $70k this year until I left. I don't consider 70 grand to be a "healthy salary" for an air line Captain. I spent a heck of a lot of time away from home and had a lot of headaches for that salary. The pay at the regionals is extremely substandard.

When you look at the time away from home, and what the job involves, I certainly see your point, that $70K isn't "healthy", for an airline captain. BUT, I still find it hard to put a "figure" on what would be considered acceptable, vs. unacceptable, as this will vary from one person to another. Depending on their lifestyle, where they live, etc., one pilot may be more than happy with their $70K, while another may believe that anything less than six figures is unacceptable. I think, regardless of what you think is good pay, or not, you should always fight for more, especially for that fellow pilot who wants his six figures, but I can't see bashing another pilot, because he is happy with his salary.

I agree that you shouldn't "bash" another pilot because he's happy with his salary, but at the same time, that pilot shouldn't complain when the majority within the union decides that they want to fight for more. Too often I've heard the minority of the pilots at certain regionals complain that the majority wants to continue fighting for better compensation rather than just settle. If someone thinks that $70k is fine for them, then that's their opinion, but they should accept that the majority rules.

As the saying goes... "It's not about how much you are worth because you are worth only as much as you negotiate.."

Medicals, Possible Disabilities, Checkrides, Training, TAFB, Flying Backside of the Clock, Responsibility, Weather Diverts, Operational Emergencies, the list goes on but bottom line is that Pay Stub.. And it is only as good as what is negotiated and the only way to do that successfully is 'Unity'!

Note: The company has to be able to afford it too..

Its going to vary by pilot. 70k for a single 25 yr old capt is very different than for a 35 yr old capt with wife, kids and mortgage.

How dare any of you question your wages.

Shut the hell up.

No one but management will decide your worth.

Deal with it.

hahaha :sarcasm:

Even another twist.

$70K today is a lot different than what $70K will be by the time you make it in the future.

Heck, that's less than a bus driver in many cities, DOH! :)

What's the number for that bus driving school again? Bus-masters I think it was? :D
