Colgan March Bids...

I wish the reserve lines had 11 or 12 days off... they're not commutable with 10, and I've talked to some that have families and commute- its depressing to see everyone sitting around not being utilized for flying, then trying to scrape together some time with family. Really puts this career choice in perspective!

That issue is being addressed. Change needs to be made (lots of changes, actually) and we're working on it!

Even 11 or 12 days off won't help if its not scheduled right. 6 on 2 off when you commute isn't fun either. I'm close to pulling the plug on this career for good. I get recalled back to a totally different scenario and I'm just fed up with never being home.

I have heard ALOT of guys saying this.

Last week I was seriously looking at my options after next months schedule came out.

Unfortunately I have nothing to fall back on and this is my best option currently.

I also dislike the courtesy reminders to all those that did not bid which are typically the senior guys. That should be their problem and I bet if a few in the top ten percent of the company did not get a line or got a reserve line it would be the last time they forgot to bid.

People forgetting to bid slows down the whole process because now they can not do the finals until they are all in and it would have potentially given a few of the more junior guys a chance at a line when they normally wouldnt have gotten one.

Thatis also why the standing bid is worthless. A senior guy can just toss his name in whenever, and get it. Even if others submited the bid on time

Now you've confused me. I don't see why you think this is a standing bid issue. What we need is for planning to stick to their guns, and pull the bids at the appointed time. Personally, I think this is a throwback to the old Colgan "Family". DC (now MH) are just trying to be helpful to the (rather large) group of pilots that didn't care enough to bid on time. I agree that if they got stuck with reserve for a month, they wouldn't forget again!

Yeah no kidding....I like our system, Bid Pack comes out via PDF file. On the first page is a big calender with all the important bid dates, Phase 1 Bid Pack posted, Phase 1 closes, Phase 2 bid pack open...closes etc...It even breaks down when line improvement times open, which is when we can start trading stuff on the computer. But it's all broken down for us dumb pilots for time zone changes etc.

But the deadlines are just that, deadlines. There's no "I forgot." Perhaps because it's all computerized it's easier to enforce strict deadlines.

They're out...

honestly, not understanding scheduling/planning... are they trying to piss us off? or punish us for ALPA? I love 21 days of rsv a month.:sarcasm:

21 days? SERIOUSLY? What's your min days off in a month?

My schedule on the Pinnacle side sucks so bad I'm actually glad I have a vacation week in there to dull the pain. I got ZERO of what I asked for. None of the days off, and I got a whopping ONE day of PM RSV (my first choice when it came to RSV assignments). FIVE days of RR tossed in there, 2 late ones and 3 of the 9 hour variety. Everything else was AM home reserve. According to CrewTrac, there's 196 CA pairings in open time for 1336 hours and 159 FO pairings for 1031.

Dude, if we wind up with airport RSV on the same days, I'm gonna need someone to hang out with to keep from hanging myself. :)
