Colgan (again)

Damn I might have to get off my butt and drop some cash, Seggy does Colgan look down on that safety pilot stuff? If they dont care...what if most of it is safety pilot time? (thinking about turning into a mooch)

I will trade you 100 multi for 300 TT...

I'm at 300TT, 200Multi

Seggy

What are the schedules like at Colgan, commutable or live in base type?

Colgan has varying schedules. Usually average 12-14 days off. Your QOL will be GREATLY enhanced if you live in base, but I would say 75% of our guys do commute. You will have 3-5 days off in a row and we are CASS so that does help a lot.

Honestly, our QOL is pretty darn good. They treat you fairly here. My best bud here just had his grandma die today. They gave him ten days off in a row AND they gave him his pay credit (without taking vacation or sick days out). It is what it is, people have different experiences here, but mine has been excellent so far (knock on wood!).

Not sure on the ME safety pilot time then Seggy? :)

OOOPS missed it! They look overall at the applicant, they didn't even open up my logbook! We do hire A LOT of guys from time building programs like Ari-Ben and ATP with some safety pilot time, so it really shouldn't be an issue.

PUT A RESUME IN!

Yeah I might do a timebuilding program then, I've got no multi right now, was planning on going to Ram Air or similar to get ME time without paying for it. It'll mean putting off a T-Prop for a year though.

Ok Seggy one more question, Colgan vs. Commutair... GO :)

My brothers old instructor flies for them out of BOS. He says he loves it. espically the 1900. Being the FA on the other hand gets annoying.

I could see myself there (or BigSky)if Colgan doesn't work out. BOS is only a 4 hour drive from Bangor.

Don't get me started at Commutair :) Ask Complex how I feel about them

DONT GET SEGGY GOING ON THEM. I thought he was going to fly to OH just to kick my ass about even thinking about going there! I think he would prefer someone to goto GSA over them! :sarcasm:

Why don't you like CommutAir? They are a good company, no training contract, and finally they are getting the cabin class aircraft that they've been talking about for years.

Cabin class on a Saab?? Or are you talking about the Q-200 that should start getting this month?

Sorry, Seggy, but I'll get you started. :)

I have a good friend (happens to be my private pilot instructor a few years back while I was in college) who is now CA at CommutAir. He's loved it there. Plus, as colleague Wheelsup eluded to, they're finally getting the Dash 8. What's so bad about them?

Good Company? How so?

They only pay block. Make their pilots pay for CASS. Pay sucks.

There have been times that we have been behind them going into Boston and have been slowed, yes it happens to us all, but I know you can fly more than 190 knots indicated in the Beech! Very frustrating when you are running three hours late on your Friday. This has happened more than once, and since we are on a lot of the same arrival plans usually more than once a day!

They do some things operationally with the airplane that are foolish, in my feable mind.

Cabin class aircraft? Even Colgan has had 'cabin class' airplanes for some years. Finally, they are having some legal issues, a class action lawsuit, with something that occured with their employee stock plan.

Google Commutair ESOP

But I do have a good friend there that I played football with in college. Nothing personal against the pilot group!

It is impossible to have a time frame for a particular Colgan base right out of training. It changes weekly where they need people. It can happen but who knows.

The other issue to is what airplane you are put in. If you get the Beech, chances are you will never get IAH, until you reach the Saab. With that said, they are going to start getting rid of Beeches and will mostly be hiring into the Saab, but you never know.

A good safe bet is to say that you will get any base you want within six months of your date of hire.

Is it safe to assume Colgan is going all-Saab?

Or are the rumors of the Q400 true?

Doesn't it become tedious flying to the same cities day in and day out? Just seems like it would to me...

Not at all. Take a look at XJT or any other regional out there. You are going to be going between CLE, IAH, or EWR (MAYBE LAX once in a while) all day
