CNN Interview with Concorde FE

Yep! Several airlines required them when the airplane first came out.

I know, for sure, Western, United and Wien required engineers on the 737. In fact, Wien pilots went on strike over it in 1977 when Wien tried to remove the engineer.

There was no separate panel for the engineer on the 737. He/she sat in the jumpseat.

Oh I could only imagine the high suicide rates having to endure that

We finally have our answer for why the 737 overhead panel is so complicated. It’s because it was the FE panel! 🤣

What an awesome film, such a time capsule. Love the old LAX shots and some of those geezer captains probably flew in WW2. Thanks for sharing.

Periscope is one of my very favorite time wasters.

That being said, there are lots of vintage PR films that are out there, for both the airlines and GA (United, especially, seems to have thought very highly of themselves). The transfer quality sometimes isn't all that, especially audio, but interesting nonetheless:

Obviously vintage films are a thing of mine, but as long as we're on the topic, the FAA had a long series of films for the GA pilot. Back in the day of the King Schools on video tape, you'd order the FE written course (pretty much all the majors required the written), you could select 4-6 free tapes, and the FAA films were on the list.
