CLT ramp...?

PSA guys or whoever else is in the know- what is the deal with Charlotte ramp? It seems to take forever to get around that ramp area the last couple of months!

Anything change?

The CLT ramp has always been poorly controlled. So what you're really saying is that it's been sucking more than usual?

More gates (and planes) as well as more heavies at the end of the D gates plus one way traffic plus mainline flights that are in the middle of a safety campaign....

That's yall's problem... you think it's controlled. If you just kind of do your thing it works much better.

Definitely a living example of the old saying, "better to beg forgiveness than ask permission."

We got an email saying they are going to a more "metering" based system. To help with the congestion, they are holding people at the gate and puting them in "slots" to push and taxi. The problem is now, they have EVERYONE holding and not many taxiing. Now we have gone the other way with our problem...they should let more go but just not everyone. And surprise surprise, this could all be fixed if Airways would just stop scheduling all the arrivals and depatures at the same time!

Successful traffic management at the line is squarely based on who is in the ramp tower. Only one person is "decent" at it (used to be two) and he works during the afternoon. Everyone else should be reassigned to the bagroom, in my opinion.

Granted, I don't go in there a whole lot, but I seem to remember it being one step above chaos on that ramp, especially being "outsiders".

Funny enough, you don't hear us complaining about it as much as others. The reason is that PHL north ramp has set the bar in the ground. CLT is a day at the beach compared to PHLs "wiiissscccoooonnsiii...thiirrddyy twoooo...who's at spot 14???". Or Mr..."commence a left turn...and keep it on the outer until passing the top of gate 37 then transition to south on Juliet to spot 13 NORTH of golf then contact ground once you are at spot 13 north of golf..." WtF??? Did I mention this is how he speaks when there is NO traffic around. When another airplane is around he goes all out with 5min taxi instructions.

Aircraft Callin'????

That guy has a twin in CLT.....and neither one ever shuts up.

Yeah he does but the guy in CLT isn't near as controlling, power tripping , and is overall more fun to deal with. But he does feel the need to talk all the time. All the CLT ramp people do. You would think they aren't loved enough at home. They always want to go into long pointless conversations with you that have absolutly nothing to do with the task at hand haha!

I'd agree that the Philly ramp controllers (on .75, the other side is ok) are a waste of time. The saving grace is that the ramp isn't very complex and except for when a pushed back Dash blocks spot 13 and they are on an east operation, there are always multiple ways in and out.
