Passed my IR checkride today down at EZF.
Was sweating it both literally and figuratively.
Literally because it was downright tropical today. Figuratively because I wasn't sure if I'd be able to get back to VKX with the developing weather. However, I was prepared to overnight in EZF if necessary and bring the plane back in the morning, or, at the very least, very late tonight. Ended up not having to do that, though.
The DPE was very fair, but I was frankly over-prepared. Makes things way easier, really. The oral was really more like a discussion/hangar flying session. Very comfortable. Fun, even. The DPE had some very interesting stories to tell.
Extra-special thanks from Team Killbilly HQ to: @Seggy - who said to me in 2008, "Dude. It's procedures. If I can fly instruments anyone can."
To @drunkenbeagle , @Rocketman99 , @Boris Badenov , @bucksmith for being willing to take my questions - both online and offline. Especially to Buck for putting me through a thorough BFR and getting me flying again. Also to @bunk22 for the very sage advice he gave me when I was struggling with the IR:
"Try to suck less next time."
I actually said that to myself on more than one occasion.
The rain and thunder are coming down over DC now, the Nationals won (Scherzer pitched a 1 hitter with 16 strikeouts!) and I think my wife is bringing both food and booze home.
Next up: getting checked out in the DA-40 and the G1000. I hear autopilots are kinda nice to have....
