Job Description


This role is a Fixed Term Contract (FTC), for a period of up to 21 months.

[FONT="arial","sans-serif"]Experimental Test Pilot role:[/FONT]

[FONT="arial","sans-serif"]Plans and conducts ground, flight and maintenance test flights for experimental, prototype and production aircraft to determine system functionality, aircraft performance and structural integrity of aircraft. Develops and coordinates flight test plans, procedures and techniques to achieve qualification or certification. Develops technical reports and flight reports. Evaluates flight data (e.g., system performance, aircraft handling, equipment malfunction) and participates in aircraft design to recommend changes to design based on operational considerations. Applicant must be a graduate of a UK military recognized test pilot school (ETPS, EPNER or USNTPS). [/FONT]

[FONT="arial","sans-serif"]Chinook Instructor Pilot role:[/FONT]


[FONT="arial","sans-serif"]Conducts familiarization, qualification, standardization, flight and ground instruction. Performs mission-specific training for domestic and international pilots. Performs familiarization and demonstration flights for other pilots and customers. Demonstrates competitive and technical features of aircraft for customer evaluation. Contributes to the design and development of Instructor Pilot training materials and courseware. Defines pilot instruction philosophy and approach for standardizing training materials. Coordinates training, standardization, demonstration, and evaluation procedures, techniques, and methods with international or domestic military or civil regulatory agencies to safely achieve contractual standards and certification requirements. Applicant must have UK military or nationally recognized instructional qualifications.[/FONT]

[FONT="arial","sans-serif"]Plans and conducts maintenance, production and acceptance test flights. Demonstrates or leads aircraft-qualified customer pilots in the maintenance test flight / acceptance process. Identifies and documents flight deficiencies and coordinates resolution. Ensures design integrity and recommends changes based on operational considerations. Reviews service related issues and customer feedback to continuously improve production check procedures and documentation. Applicant must have qualifications and experience in Chinook Maintenance Test flying.[/FONT]

All roles have the following key responsibilities:

  • Delivery, ferry, support tests flights and functional check flights on production and non-production aircraft as aircraft captain and/or co-pilot. Perform the duties of aircraft captain and / or co-pilot.
  • Perform the duties of a Flight Authoriser, including when operating without any on-site superior.
  • Represent Boeing Flight Operations at RAF Odiham, MOD Boscombe Down, Fleetlands and other locations.
  • Provide aircrew advice to the Boeing Design Team and assist with product development.
  • Periodic support to Boeing Flight Operations at other global Boeing sites as required.
  • Support customer meetings.
  • Participate in programme planning and support for safety activities.
  • Identify risks, issues and opportunities and support the development of mitigation plans.
  • Support the further development and maintenance of safety process.

Perform duties which may include:

  • Boeing on-site Flight Safety Officer.
  • Flight Operations support and coordination of aircrew related resources.
  • Support Boeing flight operations in the experimental test, instructional and maintenance domains.

This role is dual posted, it will be X3 or X4 depending on the skills and experience of the successful candidate.


This requisition is for an international, locally hired position. Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United Kingdom. Boeing will not seek immigration and labour sponsorship for any applicants; this is the responsibility of the candidate.


Some UK and US travel is expected, with some travel to other global sites.

Qualifications


Required competencies:

  • Be fully aware of general aviation principles and have detailed experience of flying in the UK. Must possess an EASA or FAA Commercial Pilot’s License or equivalent. Must be able to pass an EASA, FAA and UK military aviation medical.
  • Able to identify when safety within the flying environment may be compromised and can be relied upon to act decisively to improve aviation safety.
  • The role will have significant UK MoD and wider Boeing interface and therefore a person who is diplomatic whilst being strong minded is required.

Preferred competencies:

  • Detailed technical knowledge of the Chinook helicopter, ideally including the Chinook HC6. The candidate would benefit from experience on other rotary / fixed wing aircraft, particularly those manufactured by Boeing. Experience in the maritime role would also be beneficial.
  • Demonstrates the ability to plan work, conduct it and maintain an auditable log. Able to effectively execute and seek opportunities to improve strategies, processes and project plans. Assist with removal of obstacles by identifying where help is needed and coordinating with the appropriate leaders and team members.
