I think he's poking fun at the people on here who are very militant about getting "real world experience" as a CFI / freight dawg / etc, when in actuality it doesn't make a bit of difference in the long run. It's the persons intellect and skill, IMO, that deems them a "good pilot".

I hope I didn't put words in his mouth, however.

I can agree with that. I think that several factors play into someone being a safe and smart (or good) pilot. IMO, I dont think that in order to be a damn good airline captain of a 757 you needed to be a CFI, freight pilot, or military pilot. Good pilots come from all walks of life my friend.
 
Like I've said, any body can be a pilot. All it takes is money, everyone in this country can get a drivers liscences so they all can get a pilots liscence.

I dont know if I can agree with that one. Are you a CFI? Because Ive seen a few walk through my school's door.
 
Gulfstream does hire outsiders as first officers right? I mean without having to go through the flight school, then it will be like flying for Skyway except in nicer places. Their school is kind of BS, but the actual airline does not seem to bad to work for.

Incorrect. Pinnacle is still hiring GIA pilots and has recently started a program with AllATPs to take graduates of some new "direct-track" program that they are starting.

A lot of regionals fly their own colors on some planes (Mesa, Colgan, Air Wisky-used to, and Im sure there are others I cant think of).....Chalks flew Pan Am colors for a while. Bet you didnt know that.

No. They don't.

However, I met MANY guys who told me "they didn't pay" and found out later the truth ...

Lots of people didn't pay. They used to have a deal with the Academy CFIs that if you worked 18 months as a flight instructor that you would get the FO slot for free. More than a few guys went that route.
 
I really don't believe that. I've had guys tell me they did that and then found out that they paid.

I work across the hall from a guy who used to handle the finances of the new GSA FOs.

He told me that in the very beginning 5 guys transferred over from Airways International without paying, but technically they "paid" because they had to pay for training at Airways.

You give me the names of the people that didnt "pay" and I'll check up on it if you want. I'll see the guy Thursday.
 
I was watching a show last night and it made some good points about society changing. It seems that today nobody wants to work for anything. Why should one work to get what they want.

If one wants to get bigger or lose weight just pop a pill for a shortcut, Want be a pilot ASAP just pay for it. I wonder how long before the other industries catch on to this.

Values and ethics everywhere are going down toilet.

You can blame the baby boomers for that, raising their kids on soccer and sports where score is not kept, and "everyone" wins. Lazy hippie generation raised their kids to expect everything they want because the parents didn't want their kids to cry or not have what the Smith's child has.
 
My parents were not so indulgent with me. If I wanted to go to church league basketball I had to arrange a ride.

I remember hitchhiking home across the city one night. My dad finally came out and got me.

Remember, there is no commandment that says "Honor your children!"

But Chris is right, it's about misplaced priorities.
