I also remember an advertisment that ran a couple of years ago featuring Travolta in the aviation magazines. It said, "Profession: Pilot, Career: Actor".

How can you call your profession a pilot when you can't get paid to fly?

There are "paid" pilots who aren't very professional and I've known private pilots who owned complex airplanes who were consummate professionals in their approach to flying.

As in:characterized by or conforming to the technical or ethical standards of a profession.

It's only a problem if your ego is easily bruised by such things.
