Charging for airshow admission?

LOL.....The smelling like onions thing reminds me of Castle AFB up in Atwater/Merced.....that whole area always smells like onions.

that's everything south of Sacramento all the way to Bakersfield. Bealle AFB was free. Mather is not.

The worst by far is the Tora Tora Tora announcer. I've seen that show several times, and this year the guy just spewed fascist propaganda the entire time. DO YOU LOVE YOUR COUNTRY?! I SAID, DO YOU LOVE YOUR COUNTRY!? YOU BETTER, THIS IS THE GREATEST COUNTRY IN THE ENTIRE WORLD. NO OTHER COUNTRY EVEN COMES CLOSE!!!!

All this while the year's invited guest, the Brazillian Smoke Squadron, listened in. Seemed tacky and over the top - let me just listen to the planes.
Ironically all the civilian airshows I've been to were way over the top with all this patriotism stuff. I mean I like me some America, but there's a difference between showing and getting a little ridiculous. All of the airshows I've been to on military bases toned it down a little.

And I don't mind the Top Gun music NEARLY as much as I mind hearing Lee Greenwood 8000 times in a row.

Oh God, no kidding. Not to mention the dirty looks I get for not standing up during that song. It's not the national anthem and I have a turkey leg in one hand, beer in the other. Give me a break.

I was born there man! It's in my blood!:rawk:

I'm from Tulare just to the southeast of there. I'd lay on my back on my grandfather's lawn waiting for the occasional F/A-18 to zip overhead on initial into LNAS!

Ummm, yeah, ever been to an airport. You think those people that live around it enjoy having it there? Sure the airport may have been there first, but the airport is outnumbered.

Dude, are you serious? It really must suck, having all that self-loathing for being a pilot and making everyone who lives around an airport life so bad.

I'm thinking maybe somebody left JC signed in at work? And co-workers are having a little fun? Roommates maybe?
:dunno:

But if the airport wants to coexist with the people that live around it, they need to give something back in exchange for all the problems they cause. I think maybe I will start calling in noise complaints on the tower frequency and make one of those really loooooong and sloooow radio calls.

Wow man.. Are you drunk posting? Did you leave your internet signed on at some FBO?

This guy is either a flamebaiter, still logged on, or just effed up.

I flew into the RFD airshow today and they accidentally had us park with the static displays next to a few KC135's.

It wad free too!

Well, I have been to over a dozen airshows and don't recall ever paying a dime to get in to any of them. I do remember them charging for some of the close-up parking and the concessions being a bit outrageously priced and I can understand that kind of stuff. But if the airport wants to coexist with the people that live around it, they need to give something back in exchange for all the problems they cause. I think maybe I will start calling in noise complaints on the tower frequency and make one of those really loooooong and sloooow radio calls.

You're a hypocrite.

Looks like Timbuff has been around a while... others who have been seem him around, is this his usual self?

So, someone help me out here. If the consensus is that MOST airshows DO charge for admissions...and the most of the people in this thread have been to several airshows...how does one claiming otherwise not realize he might be in the wrong minority?

Nah, he probably stayed logged in.
If that IS the case...serious facepalm for those who decided to prank his account. I mean come on! Here is someone's account logged in and ready to go, and why do they charge admission at airshows is the best they can come up with? Pretty lame. Bet they still think Dane Cook is funny.

The last airshow I went to we took on 500 gallons of 100LL and 10 gallons of oil. That comes out to between $2000 and $3000 and we were static only. Had we flown in the show, it would have been more like 700 gallons of 100LL and 15 gallons of oil. They also had to pay for six hotel rooms for our crew and catered our lunch and dinner daily. That was just for our plane, that did not include the other fifty planes and hundreds of other crew members that were there. Airshows are not cheap to put on.

Alex.

I was thinking about going over there and checking things out, but you have to be kidding me. Admission to get into the show? Aren't these airports federally funded?

Weren't most NFL stadiums built by the host cities? Even so, as far as I know most of them charge people an admission fee to watch games. Granted they are only locally funded instead of federally funded, but tell me how that's different.

I demand free NFL tickets!! I'm a victim of NFL coexistence!!

It's not easy having a stadium in your neighborhood, and if stadiums want to coexist with the people that live around them, then need to give something back in exchange for all the problems they cause.
