Challenge non-id'd persons on the ramp

The badge by itself conveys no authority. Only the ID does. When a situation arises where there is any doubt, ask to see the identification. If the person doesn't show it to you, call law enforcement.

I don't have/have never had a Sida badge.

For Pinnacle, MSP based guys don't need one, so they don't get one. MEM based guys need one b/c we need it to get to Ops, and DTW needs it b/c of where the employee bus drops them off. If it weren't for that, I doubt MEM or DTW would get SIDA badges either except for parking reasons.

If I got time of without pay for b.s. like that I would go ballistic. Wow, I'm really angry about it right now. :banghead:

They pull this stuff on us at the airport I work at, as a ramper. We are supposed to challenge people, and ask to see their badge. When I have just 25 minutes to turn an airplane, and have other important stuff I am needing to do, I don't have time to be challenging people, to see their badge. I don't work for TSA. It isn't my job. If I see something outright suspicious, that is one thing.

True story: I was walking up the jet bridge in XNA. I was the last one off the plane and had just locked it down for the night. On my way up, a TSA agent passed me going the opposite direction towards the aircraft.

He had his blue shirt....badge.....but I saw no I.D., so....yep... I stopped his ass and asked to see it.

He reached in one pocket....no I.D. Reached in another pocket....no I.D., then said "I think I left it on my jacket."

So, I suggested he go back up with me and get his jacket. He smiled...said "Okay" and came back up with me...found his I.D., showed it to me, and was on his way.

We've also been told to challenge anyone we see not wearing/showing the correct identification down on the ramp, or in the halls of the crew/ramp personnel area. Apparently, we are being tested as well.

I don't look at people when I'm on the ramp.

The only thing I observe is the airplane because it is the only reason I am on the ramp to begin with.

If someone is in the background, it was the TSA's job to make sure they are allowed to be where they are in the first place.

If you're an airline ramp rat in a SIDA, it is your job to question those not showing proper ID. The FAA checks this procedure all the time and there are still steep penalties from the FAA to the airline for not doing so. TSA has been playing the same game since they were formed.

If you don't like it, find a job that doesn't require SIDA procedures.

Yeah and she probably would have confiscated your badge if your picture was worn. That happened to a co-worker of mine when I used to be a fueler. Funny how that only works one way.

My opinion is to stay at a distance and call the cops... Straight from SIDA training if not comfortable in approaching an individual (who is comfortable talking to the TSA?). That way everybody on the ramp will be aware of the person trying to test everyone.

I guarantee if I catch a TSA person on the ramp without ID, I am calling the airport police. How am I supposed to decipher was is or is not a test? I'm supposed to be accomplishing my safety duties, not playing police.

I am giving money to ALPA-PAC. I'd hope they're using MY money to help fix these problems. But I have a feeling they are not. I might have to stop giving them that money.

No they are. Got a briefing from them a few weeks ago.

I find it hysterical that all the unionized guys are running around in circles trying to figure out how best to please some high-school dropout with their attention to Ramp Secur-i-tay. "Who? What? There was someone around my airplane? Guess I should update my prescription! I have to go now, my grandmother is on fire."

If you take these ######s seriously, they're going to get the idea that they should be taken seriously.

If there is an inspector of any sort make sure you ask for their credentials, their ID is worthless, that's another way of getting fined. But yea all in all these security measures are mostly ridiculous and I suspect have become just another way for gov to make money out of fines.
