CFIs Needed

What I would have to do is leave everything here, my house, GF, dogs, and drive out there to live for 10 months. I'm not completely sure I want to do that, combined with the timing of the interviews...

What are the multi-engine prospects like? Do the students do the ME-COMM as an initial or add-on? Also, does each student spend the entinre 10 months getting their ratings or is it more like the ATP 3 month/student schedule?

Well, I emailed my resume. Seems like a good proposition, and I have all my ratings. Plus I get to try out the TwinStar when it comes online. Why not?

In the 10 months you'll have 4 commercial-multi studnets who'd be about 30-40 hours each. They don't even do a commercial single engine, only private, instrument, and commercial-multi, and also some training in a King Air, but we won't be doing the instructing in the King Air unless we want to stick around until we have over 1500 hours (insurance). I'm not familiar with ATPs program, but our program is 0 time to commercial-multi in 10 months (again no commercial-single) which means about 1 rating every 3 months.

You guys wanna hire somebody (with 1500 hours) to do King Air Instruction??;)

Flyguy,
Are you still looking for ground instructors? If so, what are the requirments and how long will the school give you to get your instructor ratings?

Ha Ha, I think our team leaders will be doing that. We want to get our King Air instructors from in house. We're selfish like that. ;)

Instructors still needed

We still need more instructors to start in February. We are only accepting applicants with CFI and CFII completed, MEI is a plus. If you are still interrested and have not sent me a resume, or sent one a while ago and haven't heard back, send me your most current resume and i'll forward it to the assistant chief. Qualified applicants should expect to be contacted in the next week or so. We'll be doing interviews over the next two weeks, whenever you can get here. Let me know if you are interrested.

How do you want us to send the resume? You can PM me with the info if you wish.
Thanks

Should I start to study the ATP

Flyguy, Do we still have to take a 50 question ATP and a few other tests that last 5hr. just to get hired.

What's wrong with that? Should they take your word that you know your stuff?

Yes. And actually it used to be twice as hard but we had to lower the standard a bit to get enough instructors for this program. We have very high standards for quality instruction, and since you have not flown with us since private, we have no idea what you know, so we have to make you prove it. Instructors who trainined at Sierra have to take the entrance exam also. The good news is, we really need instructors, so unless you do extreemely poorly, you will be given consideration. I suppose you can think of it as a right of passage.

study ATP written? or flight instructor written for that test?
You best bet is to study ATP Gleim, turbo-prop systems (particulary King Air - I hear they like to ask a lot about them) and CFI oral exam guides.

That is silly. I just went through the interview with Sierra and there was not a single question above a CFI level of knowledge. Yes, Sierra will have a King Air soon but the new hire CFI's are not going to be teaching it. I am not trying to compromise the integrety of the written exam/oral interview but lets not tell people to study ATP/King Air systems because that is not the type of questions your school is testing canidates on.

BTW, thanks you for walking my resume in and giving me the opportunity to interview.

Well you would know better than I would, but another candidate told me he was asked about King Air systems. Although now that you mention it I think he was applying for the team leader position and eventually will be instructing in the King Air.

What I suggested was just my best guess as what they were testing over. The old test was 100 essay questions and took 8 hours, and did cover ATP level material. As for this test, there are 50 questions from the ATP written, so I can't immagine it would be a bad idea to study them. But then again, you've taken the test and I haven't so I'll let you give the gouge.

And you are quite welcome. Have you decided if you'll take the job?

Flyguy,
Thanks for the info. Does Sierra offer any sort of sign-up/relocation bonus? I wish I could do this, but I don't have the $$ to relocate to the other side of the country (I live in MA).

Unfortunately we do not have the means to fly anyone out for an interview or to pay any re-location costs. This opportunity is only available to those in California or who are willing and able to reloate on their own. We wish we could offer transportation and/or relocation, but we are just a flight school, not a large multi-national corporation.

Well I got the call, and I'm slated for an interview next Friday. I'm flying to CA on Thursday. Would be great to meet some of you guys!

Neil
