CFI Union

Man, would a union be awesome. Right now I wish I could get paid 1,500 salary a month so I could know what I'll be making every month.....$1,500 would be golden.

agree..but I think his point is more along the lines that as an instructor you know how much you at least make...instead of 1 month making 2400 then the next 900 ...which I know has happened to some of my friends who instruct

No doubt about it, it would be nice.

As said before more then fair wages for a CFI would be:

25k For CFI
30k For Ass Chief
35k For Chief

Plus

Good Dental/Medical, Matching 401k, Paid Vacation, and monthly re-currency paid for by company.

Not to bust your balls but isn't that awful. I busted my ass to be where I'm at now. I could make more then that at a McD's drive through.

1500*12/52/7.3=47.42 hours a week. So you really can't make that at Mcdonalds. Just felt like doing the math.

My point was that your statement that you could make MORE than that at mcdonalds was false. Sorry if it seems dickish but when you grow up in a house where your dad is a lawyer, you DONT make a argument unless you have facts to back it up and your facts have better be right because he will go check them. So I ran the numbers to see if they made sense and they didnt. That was my point.

I made $750 as a FT CFI this month...could scan my pay stubs for you so that you can have all the facts.

I believe your not making crap there. I was just talking about the mcdonalds pay. The low pay is why I'll happily keep my job running the warehouse and just teach airplanes and gliders come next year. I couldn't live off just 750 a month.

Dude, I would be up for it but I'm too poor to pay the dues...that's how they get ya!

I have this day dream of being at our monthly CFI meeting with the bosses, we are going to put the brakes on the meeting pull out a gavel and jokingly vote in Union and a Union president and other items. I would love to see the reaction.

It would be funny, if we wouldn't all be fired before the joke fell. :D

I honestly feel like I get a fair shake at my shop.
I think I get a just slightly below a fair % of the money I bring in with an hour of work. I know the boss is not paying me so little because they want more for themselves, but its because they have very little.

Now I worked at a different place that I saw a very small % of what was charged for an hour of my time. The only thing you can do there is quit. I did.

I personally think the answer is to charge more, which is only accomplishable if you go independent. IMO. If my school charged more we wouldn't be competitive to the other schools in the area.
It's a tough go to have a flight school, but if I worked at a place that I felt had the money and was holding out, I too would be all for a union.

My last pay check was $350
My one before that was a record high $1300

What about finding a part time job to make some extra cash till things pick up James? Go work at like a Red Lobster. You can work 2-3 nights a week and make a few hundred extra to get you through. Also get that debt off your credit card! The interest rate is crazy high.

Trying but I'm kinda getting my balls busted on being there even when I don't have students.

As for the union dues...if this is going to just be an in house shop is there need for them?

The most I have made in one month is 2,000 flat. I figured out that I get paid exactly half the time I actually spend at the school. AND I make 48% of what is charged for my services...AND if it's a "advanced" student, the school charges even more for my services yet I get paid the same. AND I don't recieve NO benefits, NO paid time off, NO vacation. CFI'd for a year and a half now 7 days a week and I am slipping in school...time to move home, get a part time job as a ramper and finish college. It sucks because I love flying, better yet I love teaching...awesome job until we land and taxi back to the school...then reality sets in.
