Cfi initial, ft lauderdale,fl on Wednesday, w bill blaugher

Re: Cfi initial, ft lauderdale,fl on Wednesday, w bill blaug

Geez man, pops up number 2 on a google search. Stop digging yourself a hole and just take the dang ride. If you fail, you fail. There's no shame in failing your CFI initial. If you're 100% on knowledge like you say then you should have no problem and "personality" shouldn't matter.

Any examiner who punched me in the headset might want to be wearing a parachute

just sayin.

My instructor slapped me in the back of the head once. It was kinda awkward.

Re: Cfi initial, ft lauderdale,fl on Wednesday, w bill blaug

Yeah I heard he is a complete ass hole tho.. Most likely I am gonna fail supposedly.. His pass rate is extremely low for cfi initial..

Really dude? Good way to make a name for yourself on this forum.:chair:

That's exactly what I'm talking about man, I don't understand all these guys on here getting their panties all wadded up bc I said "I heard he is a hole" is that not a perfectly good reason to say that? I mean I understand the guy is legendary, but for ANYONE to just slap someone in the side of the head is just at least a semi Ass hole thing to do, am I right or wrong here? If someone slapped you in the side of the head or headset when u went for your cfi check ride would u not think of them as "ass hole-ish" at least? I feel fully justified in asking if what I heard was true and if u guys who commented negatively about my asking it can't lighten up then I don't see much need of me being a part of a forum where it's members can't simply offer advice rather than berate a member for asking a simple question.. Thanks for making me feel welcome! Aside from that, thanks to those who did offer up advice, I truly appreciate it bc this is a big deal for me, becoming a cfi is something I place a lot of weight in and care a lot about.. Just trying to get some honest advice, not criticism..

Re: Cfi initial, ft lauderdale,fl on Wednesday, w bill blaug

I was in the same exact situation you are earlier this year. A clean slate and the ultimate fear of busting the check ride. Blaugher is almost everything you hear about him. Why? Because he has made grown men cry like wimpy kids and when you pass the CFI initial with him, you have proven yourself BIGTIME. When I found out I had my check ride with him I studied a lot. I mean I STUDIED A LOT. Heck, if I survived Blaugher, I’m pretty sure I can put off with just about anybody. The DPE that I did most of my other check rides with told me so. They all know about him. I won’t say much about the most stressful and crazy parts of the check ride just to save you a lot of headache so that you’re not too nervous when you meet him. I’m pretty sure you’ll do well if you go in with less negative thoughts about him. The oral was straight forward. The only funny thing was that he mentioned his recheck fee before we even started. Who does that? Well he did! He talked a lot about his career (If it’s Boeing, he’s type rated in it). He’s probably one of the few in the world to sign you off on classic planes. With all the experience he has just agree with him and save your opinions for later after you’re done. From what he told me, he’s not too fond of low timers becoming CFIs because he believes they should have more hours and experience before they can apply for the CFI. I had my AGI so we didn’t spend a second on the FOI. He tossed that out of the window. Then, we talked about endorsements. He had me take a good look at my logbook and tell him what I needed and don’t. He was mainly focused on a multi private student. Remember your basics. He’s going to take you back to the simple private pilot knowledge stuff. Especially if you went through the ATP fast track program you learn so much in such a small amount of time, you easily forget the basics and he’s very aware of that. He asked me to teach him how to plan his first cross country as a private pilot student. How to determine true airspeed, ground speed, magnetic and true course plus all the other good stuff; Have your PA44 owner’s manual ready and tabbed. He also had me teach him multi-engine aerodynamics (my favorite). Everything else, you should know if you got this far in your training. For the flight, know your environment. If you have never flown out of that airport, make sure you ask the instructors there on how things are done. Especially, if your check ride is at FXE. He had me teach steep turns, vmc demo, power off stall, emergency descent and his all-time favorite “turns around a point” and maybe one or more maneuvers that I can’t think of right now. But, if you’re reading this and you don’t know how to enter or leave the turns around a point maneuver, you’ve got some serious work to do. I talked everything out and he didn’t say much but just told me to turn to specific headings so we don’t go too far out. If you mess something up, he’s going to point it out and keep bringing it up for the remainder of the check ride. Don’t let it get under your skin. Also, don’t be too sorry or apologetic. If you go down that path, he’s going to tell you that your instructor didn’t teach you. Your instructor failed you, therefore you’re failing. He easily gets people with that and they end up admitting that their instructors didn’t teach them this or that hoping that it’ll help the situation. That’ll be game over for you. Stay in check ride mode and focus. Correct your mistake and move on. There’s not a lot of room for mistakes with him. Expect a single engine landing when you get back. It’s going to be something you have never seen or experienced before but again he’s Blaugher and he does it his own way. Just land the plane safely. According to him I had the hardest landing in his whole lifetime. I beat his 747 and 777 landings lol!! J Don’t be too nervous. When you get back, before you let him out, make sure you push your seat backwards for him otherwise you’ll hear a mouthful about it and he’s going to think you’re not going to do it to your students as a CFI. It’s a simple courtesy thing. Maybe he’ll tell you about it before you get up. He warned me beforehand. He didn’t tell me I passed. He went inside and told everyone else. Just remember there’s only two outcomes (pass or bust) and any proven pilot with a lot of determination can survive it. If you have any specific questions, just PM me but I think I said pretty all I want to tell you. When you’re done with this, you get to join the Blaugher survivor club and a crazy story to tell for the rest of your life. Good Luck!

Ipilot thanks a lot man, that's the kinda info I was looking for!! Going right now for my recommendation ride! Where did u do cfi school with ATP? I'm at lzu.. Well, gonna go practice my turns around a point during my recommendation ride..thanks again

I had bill for my initial just like you at atp. Bill isn't as bad as some people and his page makes it seem.

He just wants to make sure your safe, and don't drink the atp koolaid.

I'm at work now. But if u give me ur phone number I will call you when I have a second to give u a rundown of the checkride I had with him in fll.

Crazyjeep is right! He's not as bad. He doesn't ask any tricky questions like some examiners do. You're putting a lot of stress on yourself by believing everything about him. Just try not to piss him off and the only way to do that is by messing up. Know your stuff and you'll be fine. He usually starts the whole process pretty calm. Did you get the sign off?

I  a good troll job, and a good troll is $$$

Be glad you don't have pink slip pinkston. My partner had him. He felt like his dpe was gonna die on him during the checkride. At one point he swore he fell asleep in the plane.

Is he still a dpe? Alive?

Contact Doug Taylor, or one of the moderators and just tell them you messed up and need to get rid of this thread ASAP!

unfortunately, posts get google cached very quickly. So they never really disappear.

Read and re-read what you type people. Don't regret it later. And don't bypass the profanity filter. Just type what you want and let the filter do it's thing.

OMG!! Pink slip Pinkston! He's probably still alive. He did the initial for an instructor I knew way back. The oral was an hour and the flight was .5! You have to see it to believe it. You literally had to help him get in the plane.

Re: Cfi initial, ft lauderdale,fl on Wednesday, w bill blaug

My buddy got pinkston, he's quite happy about that! I'll pm my number to ya jeep, appreciate it! The first couple days on this forum was discouraging, the responses I got, etc.. So glad to be getting some help now! Thanks guys! Who all went thru ATP on here?

Hahah yes Pink slip Pinkston. A couple of guys in my class had him. Always watch for the cone and do a second walk around on his checkrides haha. One guy in my class I believe had Blaugher, but I never really got any details from him.

I had Brooks Black. He was a cool guy. More than fair and definitely level headed. He wanted to see you pass.

Re: Cfi initial, ft lauderdale,fl on Wednesday, w bill blaug

Yeah I heard the same about black, wish I had gotten him.. Thanks for the call with tons of info tonight crazyjeep, like I said, u should apply with ATP! I spent all evening studying past blaugher gouges and I am beginning to feel a little better about it! One more question to the few of u who had blaugher, should I go and get a hair cut tomorrow? My hair is not touching my neck or anything, just a little thick and big.. It seems like in a couple of pics of him he had big hair too tho, so I'm debating a fresh cut..:afro:

Even though I'm thirty...I still ask myself what my father would do. He would get the haircut. Do everything possible to be professional and give him no excuses to take another 500 bucks from you.

Remember what I said on the phone. You are already a CFI...you just need the paper to prove it. You'll be fine. Most of have been where you stand today...and survived...most of us lol.

Don't forget to study pa44 systems...good luck even though you don't need it.

Re: Cfi initial, ft lauderdale,fl on Wednesday, w bill blaug

He wanted to see you pass.

I've never met one yet who didn't. I should add that when examiners get together and talk about applicants who failed, usually the only harsh words that are spoken relate to the flight instructor who signed the recommendation.
