Long story continued: Sorry last night I had to work late at the airport, which by the way was terrible after successfully completing my CFI!! But it was also my last day working at the airport as a line staffer as I am moving home today to begin a perilous job search.
Anyways.....
After the short coffee break we dove back into the oral. At this point my memory of the questions and answers are starting to drop off, but bear with me. We jumped into the technical subject areas and this is where the questions became quite a bit more random. He was thumbing through the PTS, and in between questions telling me a story here and there, He had quite a few interesting stories to tell and I most definitely humored him. He asked about flight instructor responsibilities and characteristics, Illusions: Vestibular and night, spatial disorientation, Aeromedical, fatiques and stress, NTSB 830, Principles of flight: how lift is made and controlled, and then talking about night flying I worked myself into a little corner when I mentioned rods and cones in one of my answers. He wanted me to expand on this and I wasnt able to go into too much detail about it. I used the PHAK to help in my explaination but he wanted more..... So he took over and explained why we use red light in the cockpit and he brought up some good points. I had mentioned that using red light in the cockpit it makes it difficult to see magenta circles on sectionals but he wanted more. He made an awesome point that falsely using a red light on a preflight could hamper your ability to see any leaks of Mil-5606 on GA planes.
Then he said pull out your sectional. I was expecting him to hit hard on all the special use airspace because this is a special emphasis area, he didnt... He unfolded a sectional and told me to explain every single airspace we can see. He wanted equipment minimums, certificate minimums, cloud clearances, and all the possible floors and usual radius of the different airspace. It went pretty good except I failed to mention that Echo can start on the surface. I wasnt expecting this type of question but it went well and he seemed satisfied.
Now to wrap up the oral I had to teach him departure stalls, I had made a powerpoint on my laptop, and FAA lesson plan format for a ground and flight lesson. Since we had already talked about alot of aerodynamics the lesson was pretty brief. I explained the procedure supported by a couple whiteboard pictures and powerpoint slides. He asked me to explain why center of gravity affects stall speed, and luckily it was bothering me a week before because i couldnt explain that exact question. Luckily I got it explained to me by my instructor and I was well prepared to answer.
ORAL DONE!!! Sweet!!
He said ok lets go fly!! I quickly generated a weight and balance along with takeoff and landing distance data and then we had another break for lunch.
After preflight we jumped in the plane and I taught him through (In chronological order) a short field takeoff, steep turns, Departure stalls, He also did departure stalls like a terrible student would so i could point out his mistakes, Lazy eights, chandelles, steep spirals, Eights on pylons, short field landing, soft field takeoff, soft field landing, and alot of conversation in between.
Finally a congratulations from him saying I just completed my CFI checkride!!!!
Its been such a relief and I feel so blessed to have accomplished so much. I want to take the day off but Im moving back home today to live my parents while I find some work!!
This forum has been a great help (While I lurked for a while) Thanks for everything guys!
