GORDON COUNTY, Ga. — The FAA confirms a small Cessna Citation plane disappeared from radar over Cherokee County around 10 a.m. this morning.
According to the federal agency, the plane departed Atlanta Regional Airport-Falcon Field in Peachtree City just before 10 a.m.
"We do not know the number of people aboard or the destination yet," the FAA said.

Authorities are working to locate the plane and confirm the conditions and identities of the people aboard, the agency said.
UPDATE: The Gordon County Sheriff's Office told 11Alive deputies are searching for the plane in a heavily wooded area in eastern Gordon County.
Cherokee County Public Safety reported that it got a call from Gordon County about the plane, saying it was last seen over Mt. Olive Church in Fairmont, which is in Gordon County.

Not sure on details other than one of the pilots used to be the head of my old flight school down in the Newnan/Peachtree City area. He had been a VP at FedEx for their Asia operations and then in “retirement” decided to get his pilot/CFI certs and run the school.

His son-in-law since took over running the flight school.

“Missing”? My tv remote goes missing.

You’d think they’d come up with a better term for something so substantial.

They lost a Learjet in New Hampshire for three years... It just sounds like carelessness...

Wreckage of Small Jet Found North of Atlanta

CALHOUN, Ga. (AP) — The wreckage of a small jet was found Saturday in a remote area of northern Georgia, hours after the plane went missing from radar shortly after takeoff from the Atlanta area.
There were no signs of survivors, the Gordon County Sheriff's Office said. It wasn't known how many people were aboard
A search began once the plane was reported missing Saturday morning, Gordon County Sheriff Chief Deputy Robert Paris told The Associated Press. Civilians aided in the search and it was a private citizen who first spotted wreckage. “It's in a very densely wooded, very remote part of our county,” he said.
Paris said National Transportation Safety Board officials were expected to arrive Sunday.
Earlier, the Federal Aviation Administration said in a statement that a Cessna Citation aircraft disappeared from radar around 10:10 a.m. about 50 miles (80 kilometers) north of Atlanta. It had departed from Atlanta Regional Airport-Falcon Field in Peachtree City.
The Cessna website describes the Citation as a small business jet. Depending on the model, it can carry from seven to 12 passengers, according to the website.
Snow was reported in the Atlanta area around the time of the takeoff but it was not known if weather was a factor.

Had a Bonanza go down 1/2 mile from the runway of Sandy Creek Airpark in FL. Fortunately had another plane nearby that flew over and spotted him. The brush was so thick that it took first responders 6 hours to get to them. They had to bring in a logging company to cut a path to reach them. If there hadn’t been another plane who knows how long it would have taken to find the wreckage.

Rumor on another forum is the left side attitude indicator failed and the pilot was attempting to fly off the right side attitude indicator. Somewhat of a partial panel situation.

Certainly not out of the realm for an average pilot to deal with though. I have to think there is more.

That’s a tough recording to listen to. I know that voice all too well. Sad loss for the aviation community. The owners of that particular jet were great folks. Just this last year they were flying multiple trips for one of their former employees for cancer treatment down in HOU on that jet free of charge. Just saw the pilot at the former employee’s funeral in November.
Sad day...

Falcon Aviation? Damn I went through school there and worked for them for a short time.

"Cast Away"??

Apparently the guy was a manager for FedEx. So that's, er... evocative.
