Cessna 152/172 airspeeds

I was taught in the 172....or any single-engine trainer for that matter....

2600RPM @ 150kts short final.

:yeahthat:

Cut the power 1 mile out @ 800'. The only problem with coming in low and fast is the poor tower controller needs to give you an altitude warning. Watch the Bob Hoover youtube videos for a good demonstration of this technique :)

For RPM settings in a Cessna - well, it really depends on the plane and the weather. An older 172P with 180HP one passenger on a cold day will need way less power than a newer 172S on a hot day. Just do whatever it takes to get the descent profile you are looking for. 500-700 FPM is best for a 152/172/182/etc.

This reminds me of when I was about halfway through my PPL. I did all of it in a 152, but wanted to fly a 172.

"Hey, Larry...is the 172 any different?"

"Nah. You have more rudder authority in the 152 though."

"That's cool. What about speeds?"

"Just add five to everything you're doing now."

He was kidding, and told me to look in the POH, which I did, but it often does come out to exactly that for me.

Anybody have the RPM/airspeeds for a Cessna 172 & 152 for downwind, base, and final?

In a 150 I fly downwind at about all I can get (100ish), throttle back at numbers and slow to 85, 75 on base, 65 on final

I flown about 70 hours in the last month in the Cessna 172. I never really used 20 degrees of flaps and have only landed once with full flaps. I'm normally 70kts on final with 10 degrees of flaps. I don't have a specific procedure for it, just go by feel every landing is a different situation there is no specific way for it.

You have notches on your flap control device (what is that thing called?)? On our 172M you just hold it down until you get the desired flap degree. Not a set-and forget thing, you have to hold it down until it gets to 20 degreees, etc.
I have flown one with that switch. It sucks. The main 172 I am flying does have notches.

Anyone give the numbers/procedure I posted a shot? I am curious how the rest of you fare with such a procedure (hands off mind you). Thanks.
