Just out of curiousity..... anyone know any other celebrity pilots?

Harrison Ford
Jonh Travolta
Dexter (from the rock band "The Offspring")
Angelina Jolie (I think she took her checkride already)

Are any athletes into flying? I would think with all the money they make there would be more of them into it.

John Kerry.. but he's not much of a celebrity anymore

I think his name is Michael Dorf, he was on star trek. He owns a Jetstar and some other planes....Also, Jimmy Buffett, Dennis Quaid, and I think Tom Cruise was working on his PPL at some point.

But here is my question... Why do you care? Or was it just one of those random thoughts?

Actually, I don't think so. Many athletes contracts do not allow them to participate in what the organization considers "risky" activities, i.e., general aviation, driving ATV's, and even in some cases skiing. I don't remember where I read this, but I do remember that teams put this into contracts because if some athlete wrecks him or herself on a double black or in a 172, they do not have to pay them for the remainder of their contract.

[/ QUOTE ]Yeah, Tom Cruise flys a P-51 (probably among other things). Must be nice.

That stinks. Probably worth it though, to play a sport and get paid millions, wait to retire around 40 then do anything you want!

I remember one of my old Sport Aviation for Kids magazines had an article about a golfer Bill Glasson I think his name was, that owns (probably owned now) a Beech Starship.

Lucky b%%tards!!!!! Make obscene amounts of money and then use it to do something great like flying. Rough life!

I better not think about this anymore because in my situation I work at a couple of $hitty part time jobs to fund my training!!!!

Oh well, I just gotta remember that it will all be worth it in the end (insert tired cliche here!!!)

Morgan Freeman. Lots of the Nascar drivers like Elliot and Rusty Wallace. Atlanta Falcons had a lineman who hated living in Atlanta and flew his own airplane back and forth to somewhere in the Ohio Valley.

Cruise has been flying a long time. He owned a Pitts for a while.

The more the merrier. Spend those bucks in aviation.

Harrison Ford crashed a couple times though - once in his helicopter, once in his seminole. Good guy though, I met him on a number of occasions!

A lot of golfers are into flying.

Do college football players count?

Doug was saying that one of his buddies at Delta used to play in the NFL. I also read an article about an ex Buffalo Bill that was flying for Eagle a few years ago.

Most of my teammates are VERY afraid to fly. They absolutely HATE it.

If any of you have the Rod Machado's PPL handbook he has a big list of celebrities that fly. I have it, but its at home in Japan so I can't exactly get to it ;-)

When I was flying down in Dallas at Arlington there was some famous race car driver that would pull up in a ferrari and get in his King Air and fly it for fun.

I also remember in college that people on athletic scholarships were not allowed to ski during the season. Ha, sucked for them! Not sure if snowboarding was included in that though?
