Captain Sully and Crew on 60 Minutes Tonight.

Re: 1549 crew on 60 Minutes

Did anyone find it interesting about what the F/A said about her door being opened?

The only thing that stuck out in my mind was Sully continuously refering to what "I" did, "My airplane", after "I landed", "I took the controls". Me... me... me.

Someone skipped a CRM class I guess. I feel bad for the FO.

But he did saw on a few occasions he knew that everyone was doing everything they had to do. He talked about the F/A's giving the brace instructions, his F/O professionally relieving control as there training taught them. He did mention everyone and said that he had a aircraft full of great crew members. He didn't sound as bad as you make it sound.

Didn't she say she was standing by the door in the back of the plane after they landed...... You would have thought the guy pushing past her to the door would have seemed suspicious???? I don't know but I would have stopped him...... Just my opinion.

I agree with the fact that they kept trying to get the "Dramatics" out of him and he stayed professional and sincere regardless. I think the reunion part was a touching thing for both sides involved, the interview was very sincere, but the one F/A was really pissing me off like you all said. I am curious to see how long it takes for each of the crew to get back into the air if they do..... Regardless it was a nice piece.

Didnt she say something along the lines that she told him to open it or something, cause she didnt know they ditched, she thought it was an emergency landing?
Also, if you were to open the door, wouldnt the slide deploy? i mean, the grit bar wouldve been armed, right?

i dunno, just seemed kinda fishy IMHO

Was thinking this as well. Very "Sully oriented".

Felt bad for the FO - they gave the PTSD FA more lines. Skiles only got one line and the entire thing was very Sully oriented.

We need to do something for Skiles - god knows nobody else will. We should have a JC virtual meeting in some chatroom, or we should start a thread here to the effect that we appreciate his contribution as well - and then, when we have put up some pages of accolades, someone should direct him to the site. Just an idea.

Sully was measured and did what he had to do as far as the interview goes. You just know that he is preparing to hit the speaking circuit to rake in some dough, so he needed it to be about him - marketing. I don't begrudge him that at all - but we need to do something for Skiles. Skiles is a 23 year FO with USAir, with all their troubles. He will not be able to go on the speaking circuit, and he is not getting lots of mail about how he is the second coming. As far as the general public knows, he is basically invisible.

As far as "the blonde FA," everyone has different ways of dealing with PTSD, it's a fact. She was in the back of the plane where first impact was. She did her duty to the best of her abilities, so what if she appeared "whiny." I can't even begun to tell you how I dealt with watching my grandfather die and being powerless to do anything, I'm sure I came across much the same way. Sometimes you just want to get it out there not because you're searching for sympathy or emotional massage but because by talking about it and vocalizing your worst moments you help to quantify them and thus deal with them on a long term basis. Besides, if you ask me, she seemed rather reserved and scarred by the incident. On a cultural note, I noticed by her accent that she was from Pittsburgh. Pittsburghers say it as is, they don't mince words. She had a bad experience (as did all of the crew and passengers), of course she's going to talk about it, it's her way of dealing with it.

"It's comforting to know that no matter what you do in life, you'll never be able to know that increasing the size of a smaller sized JPG doesn't mean that it'll get larger and clearer - it's just looks like crap and all pixelated."

Sorry...just had to.

I think some of you are being a little harsh on the blonde FA. Being in the back of the plane, where the impact was severe enough to tear a hole in the fuselage, chest-deep in water when the plane started to sink (and convinced she was going to end up drowning), and one of only two on board to be injured, she had a MUCH different experience than those up front. Give the lady a break.

You can seek out the hi-res Sully images necessary to satisfy your man-crush on your own time. 3x blown up and pixelated is enough detail for me ;)

You friggin a.net photo-nazis

I'm from PIT. Born, raised, and lived there the whole time I worked for Chautauqua and later US Airways.

I still thought she sounded a little drama-queeny. I agree though that the situation in the aft was probably significantly worse than it was up front. My guess is she cracked the door herself and then panicked when she couldn't shut it.

I agree with what everyone else said about the blonde F/A and Skiles, only got one line! :(

Sully needs to smile more, or something - seems like he has a very dry personality. I did get a kick out of Couric and her trying to get Sully to sensationalize it, and he just replied very matter of factly with almost no emotion :laff:

pretty much agree with everyone else

Blonde FA was annoying, how did she quantify a cut as serious injury? To me serious injury would mean she or anyone else is still in the hospital. Skiles definitely got the shaft on his persepective. I mean the guy at the very least, besides running checklists etc, was up in front and was apparently one of only two people who knew the plan. I would have asked him "How did you feel with Sully at the controls? Were you ever scared? Did you ever think something was being done wrong?" Some questions like that. But I guess the media doesn't want to smear Sully.

As far as him getting all teh glory, that's America for you. Does anyone blame the O line when a football team loses. No, they blame teh QB and the coach. Such is life, I guess.

Re: 1549 crew on 60 Minutes

Simply put, this guy is a captain's captain from what I can see. This is the kind of guy I'd want to fly with, and this is the kind of guy I'd want to mature into as a professional.

Are you kidding me? The man was obviously on the verge of tears through out the interview. I found him to be very emotional and very professional with his responses. Its been less than a month since he ditched an airliner into a river. I would imagine that is one hell of a thing to live with.

As far as Skiles only getting one line and getting treated unfairly. Captain Sully was the pilot in command and was the one at the controls which saved 155 lives. Not Skiles.
There was a scene where Sully and Skiles embraced in what appeared to be a very emotional encounter. Those two are bonded forever and I highly doubt animosity over attention will ever be an issue.

I agree with everyone, all of the crew was fine except for the blonde. It doesn't matter if it's true, you don't come out on national TV as someone who is trying to make it seem like it has horrific and who thought she was lucky to be alive. I guarantee that inside Cpt Sully was screaming but he never once showed it. That is professionalism, that blonde was just in for the ride. Just be gracious. There's always that one FA I guess... CAtie curric failed miserably to try to break Sully into making things dramaitc. The FO was not given any air time. Other than that, it was good.

I like that idea!
