Call Sign

I always figured ATC called airnet guys "star trek" on purpose. My favorite real call signs are prolly a toss up between twister and rough rider.

If i could ever get my company to start using call signs again, id try to make it contraflow.

I've personally only looked up one. I just HAD to know who was so full of awesome they flew a GLF5 and got to call themselves "Batman." And yes, I asked what color the plane was, I couldn't help myself.

EXH, I see them every now and then, based in Switzerland. Is the aircraft black? I assumed they had more than one aircraft, thought it was Part 135 or something of that nature.

I like seeing new callsigns and figuring them out. Had this exchange with a "RSP" or "Redstripe" the other day.

Blah, Blahh, blah

Me: Was that R-S-P 123* checking in?

RSP123: Yes it's R-S-P123 level 9,000, it's Redstripe 123, like the beer.

Me: Ahh I like it, Redstripe 123 climb and maintain 15,000.

RSP123: 15,000 Redstripe 123

Me: Just so we're clear I like the callsign, the beer is ,eh, just alright.

RSP123: Hehe We feel the same way.

If you hear a BWA coming up the coast fumbling over the callsign on every radio call, that's me. :smoke:

He laughed and said "standard paint." I've only talked to them once, but if I recall correctly it was some sort of Swiss charter company with a small fleet that included a Legacy at the time.

I got called "Red Stripe" a lot at the previous employer (Aperture Aviation "SNAP SHOT", FSP). Expecting Phenom 100-like performance out of a C206 is probably unreasonable.

FLX gets called FlexJet quite often. When was the last time a LR45 flew across the state of FL at 6,000' and 140 knots?

The military does seem to get a lot of awesome callsigns. My favorite are the B-2s. They get to call themselves "Death XX".

Also, IIRC, you have to apply through ICAO somehow for a callsign.

We had a B-2 and a B-1 stop by our local airshow last summer and they both called up on the airshow freq someone had tuned in. The B-2 was definitely "Death xx" and the B-1 used "Reaper 11".... and they both sounded exactly like one would expect it to, sort of like Batman.

Clear/Concise/Correct comm. And sounding good while doing it.

There's just no other way.

We get questions/chuckles about ours all the time. Three airplanes, Moonshine 1, 2, and 3. Pretty sure we have a LOA with TRACON.
