I was flying that morning and they were popping up in small, but intense clusters. Could have been embedded as well. There's been a line of rain and thunderstorms crossing Florida for several days now.
Flightaware "radar" is far from accurate. It's a snapshot at a random time during the flight and the intensitys shown are more to show pretty colors vs. any real depiction of intesity.Looks like it went down right in the heart of that red cell.... 21000....prime altitude for feeling the wrath of a Gulf T-storm....

I've found flightaware to be very accurate about weather a lot of times. Looking back after a flight, for example, all the spots we weaved through a line or something match up with what the radar shows.

That's what I've seen in the past. I'm not saying use Flightaware for weather information, but it's a pretty good indication of what was going on. Must be a coincidence that the cells we dodged were also depicted on the track in the same place.....
