C421 Down in the Gulf near Tampa Bay

I was flying that morning and they were popping up in small, but intense clusters. Could have been embedded as well. There's been a line of rain and thunderstorms crossing Florida for several days now.

Looks like it went down right in the heart of that red cell.... 21000....prime altitude for feeling the wrath of a Gulf T-storm....

Flightaware "radar" is far from accurate. It's a snapshot at a random time during the flight and the intensitys shown are more to show pretty colors vs. any real depiction of intesity.

I've found flightaware to be very accurate about weather a lot of times. Looking back after a flight, for example, all the spots we weaved through a line or something match up with what the radar shows.

That's what I've seen in the past. I'm not saying use Flightaware for weather information, but it's a pretty good indication of what was going on. Must be a coincidence that the cells we dodged were also depicted on the track in the same place.....

Depends on the length of the flight and how much the weather was moving. I'll give you the "pretty good indication" but it's far from accurate, then again so are pilot reports on intensities so what can you do...

Flightaware seems to do a lot for effect. I've landed and it showed me going through nasty stuff that I never even touched and yet when I seem to go through the nasty stuff it shows it way off my track. Its either random or it is a picture of what it looked like at the very end of your flight. Far from accurate.

Crap, it turns out that at least one of the people on that plane worked with my good buddy at McNichols here in Tampa. He couldn't talk long, but it's a small company and he said it's a really sad day there. :(
