Hah seriously? It's a friggin 172 with one person and sometimes baggage.Hey wants his pilots to be at a certain weight too. Which is illogical but it's his company.
Well, in all honesty some of the 172s at AA with full fuel had a 250-300lb payload. We all know with our bags it doesn't take much to hit that limit...
When I was at Desert Winds it wasn't a problem and I know some guys have the plane packed out with their stuff. Northern states allegedly did some sort of study and they are claiming that a fat pilot cost them more fuel transportation time etc. Since pictometry it's paying the bills why should They even care? That's why I liked flying with Desert Winds. Chief pilot Bryan Porter didn't care what color you are your wieght or anything else all he cared about was could you fly the lines and follow his instructions.Well, in all honesty some of the 172s at AA with full fuel had a 250-300lb payload. They're not the only vendor hiring right now. If Northern States really will discriminate like that they'll be the ones scrambling to find guys to take the lowest pay of all the vendors. It's still a good gig compared to a lot of low tt opportunities. If you can't get on with AA then go apply for Skylens. I've met a few of the DWAS (Skylens predecessor) and they all seemed like really good guys. Landcare should still be looking for pilots as well.Wait...What!?! How much? I am 215 at 15% bodyfat? Would that preclude me from flying for NA?

I flew for those guys a long time ago and I am 215 as well. If I remember correctly he had something to say about my weight but when we met in person it was a non-issue.
Don't forget you get to meet some pretty amazing people that our country is filled with, tour the country without really realizing it, and make what I consider to be some lifelong friends. That's good to hear. Flying aerial survey is definitely an integral part of my master plan to rule the skies! Bwa ha ha ha....wait...you didn't hear that did you? Seriously, I do want to fly survey; it sounds like a good gig for a single guy to get good hours and save up some money.

I'm in 121 now, but I wouldn't change a thing about my survey experience.

There are some great gigs to mature to if you do like survey and you could upgrade to in a season if not two. Aspen Helo, Keystone Aerial, Fugro Geospatial, Surdex and I know I'm missing a few. Keystone, Fugro and Surdex all have turboprops in their fleet. It seems like most if not all Pictometry vendors want new guys and I think every single one of them has you reach your maximum pay after your second year. That said if you're outgoing and don't mind hanging around the FBO it seems like most guys in charter, corporate and freight are all too glad to sit around and so you may get some solid leads on other jobs that rarely if ever get posted.
