Greetings all,

I'm taking three ladies to PBI from PIE this weekend in my 172. I've never carried more than one passenger before. With all of us and one 35lb bag in the back, we'll come in just under max weight with full tanks, with CG more or less centered.

My question is, what should I expect on the landing? Should I expect a greater than usual sink rate? Should I leave a little power in or start my flare early? Just don't want to knock out the mains and jar some teeth loose in the process.

Thanks!

I think you'll find it only slightly less nose heavy than usual. Sink rate and flare shouldn't be an issue at all, on landing. Just land it how you always do. Don't expect to see over 500 FPM on initial climb.

yeah, shouldn't be too different at all. Granted I've only flown a 172 twice, but piling another person into the back of a warrior didn't make much of a noticable difference to me.

Sink rate is not much different. Expect a longer ground roll and slower acceleration after lift off. Other than that its not much different.

you're a stud

Ha, thanks - but I'm married to one of them, and the other two are lesbians - so in short, no chance of sleeping with any of them :banghead:

Thanks to everyone for their insight. She's gotten a lot stronger on the climb out with the weather changing, so we should be good.

Only thing different you will notice is the lack of pressure needed on the yoke in the flare. That and add 5 knots to your rotation and approach speed.

Did you look it up in the book? What does it say the difference in liftoff speed is between full-fuel single pilot and gross? 5-6 knots?

All performance calculations in the 172 book are for max weight, if I'm not mistaken.

There are short field takeoff tables for different weights in the SP info manual. In the conditions section you will see different speeds.

Sooo... you're taking your wife and two lesbians to PIE? Is that wise?

One is her massage therapist and the other is her accupuncturist. I suppose if anything was going to happen, it probably already has! We're headed to PBI from PIE. I did just go to their commitment ceremony, so hopefully they'll keep their vows for at least a few weeks!

"Dear Penthouse Forum,

They say that chicks dig pilots, but my wife and her two female friends were in for the flight of our lives..."

(ad nauseam)

I would rotate at normal Vr and land at normal speed. I had 4 in a 172 before and no issues at those speeds. Although as posted earlier there will be a longer takeoff roll and landing
