Just looked in my 172R information manual, and all performance calculations and stall speeds are specifically for 2450 lbs, so I guess the answer is "it depends."
 
if your local FBO has sand bags, i would recommend flying with the equal amount of weigth one before taking actual lives up in the air. I have done that before ad it makes you much more comfortable when you are flying the plane.
