Buzzing of Santa Monica Pier raises safety questions

Forget about the people on the pier - he's 2 miles from the departure end of SMO's 21, and there are small planes and helicopters flying up and down the shoreline there all the time. What a fool. He must have been giving SMO tower fits.

He gives a bad name to the rest of the aviators who maintain a certain personal code of honor (forget regs for a minute) in exercising the privileges of being a pilot.

Yes.............epic fail.

What a Jackhole!

I can only imagine flying through the corridor and seeing this crapshoot coming at me. Major pucker factor. No thank you. As said before...there are many places he might have gotten away with this but the pier is not one of them.

I'm surprised a lot of guys are being so cavalier about this. The guy broke a lot of rules.

Not only that, but he seems to display a total disregard and disrespect for them. Not by any means safe or smart.

clarification: when i said it "looks cool" i had no idea where this pier is, or in what type of airspace, surroundings it is. to me it looked like some class G airspace over the ocean somewhere.... guess not haha :dunno:

Well, well, well what a coinky-dink. Saw this on a lady's aviation blog.

That L-39 owned by David Riggs:

HA!
That is some good investigative work.
Why and how is he still flying? or is that a new dude in the same L-39.

Wow. This guy is a magnet for trouble. He is the new "where's Waldo" for any youtube video that has pilot's doing stupid stuff.

ridiculous, retarded, and I hope his certificate (if he has one) grows little wings and flies back to okc. But kind of awesome. In a stupid way.

Ha, I've met Dave Riggs on a couple of occasions. I have a friend who took a couple of rides in his L-39. Guy seemed somewhat nice but also was clearly proud of himself and his money and toys. When I talked to him, he told me his company produced movie previews/trailers. I'm not surprised he did this at all.

So does (or did)this piece of work Riggs have a commercial ticket? Only thing I saw was the LA Times piece that talks about a PP "license". It seems that he makes movies, gives VFR rides in IMC and does all sorts of stupid stuff for hire, with a PPL. The FAA really is a joke. Like all governments, the really only mess with you if you cooperate with them.
Color me disgusted:mad:

Skip Holm isn't just a Bandit...he's "Bandit 104" -- one of the original F-117 test pilots for Lockheed.

Based on when he flew Thuds, that was well before the USAF's callsign tradition was in full swing.

I don't know anything about Riggs, but Skip Holm is the real deal.

Eh, the Obama thing was stupid for sure, but they weren't purposely violating the regs or creating an unsafe environment. Although I blame the stupidity of people who couldn't identify Air Force One. :)
Life gets a lot easier to handle when you realize that there are a lot of stupid people in the world..
