But first… lemme take a #selfie

I meant good that the masks wouldn't contribute much. The rest of that other thread sounds fairly horrific.

It can be. Even what starts as a small fire when parked at the gate, within seconds can become a cabin conflagration and a cabin full of smoke.....in less than 30 seconds. Reference Delta 1558, the 727 parked at the gate in SLC on a stopover in 1989, which had a fire ignite in the EE bay. Only 12 continuing-pax were onboard at the time, along with the flight/cabin crew, and even those all barely made it out of the aft airstair. Had there been a full or nearly-full plane, there would certainly have been fatalities. And that's just a jet parked at the gate with no engines running and exits already open.

Oh good. There's a video...

I like how you can hear the FAs telling the pax to "get on oxygen."

I like how people start clapping the second the main wheels touch down when the aircraft is still traveling at 130 kts. The passengers of AF 358 also started clapping and cheered when the jet landed only to turn to screams/horror as it ran off. Luckily everyone got out in 90 seconds. It's not over until the fat lady has sung. And speaking of ladies singing, maybe the passengers that it was over because of the FA who keeps saying brace brace brace over and over again. ;)

It's because they think you're in a boy band, secksy.

When I went to visit my brother in Shanghai I arrived the same day as a teenage heart throb with my same first name. There were lots of screaming Chinese girls holding signs with my name on it. I was confused.

To be fair, a cabin fire would have to be pretty seriously involved to have the low-flow O2 from the masks provide any noticable accelerant to the fire. In the enclosed tube, pax would be dead from toxic smoke/gases of a serious fire like that before the O2 made its contribution.

Post #7 in this thread explains more:

Not to mention (putting on my firefighter hat here) it seems like every component of a commercial aircraft is designed to produce the most toxic smoke/fumes imaginable. If stuff was really burning, it'd only take a couple deep inhales to incapacitate an average person.

Another one!
