I had a smoke event at Skyway, sure they had a new aircraft for us but we were gone baby gone.
Slept 18 hours after the adrenalin ran out, went to the doctor, coughed up dark mucus for a week after that.

And if you don't go they'll probably try to give you a missed trip (I'm only half joking about this).
I once got a missed trip because I told them I wasn't coming to work because my wife was being admitted to the hospital. In that case, I dialed the chief pilot faster than they did and he fixed it pronto, but the culture still exists.
Ick. I'm sure any union rep could walk into a meeting, probably even high on pills and clear that up with catlike quickness.
The feds would kick you squaw in the pee pee if you as much as blew a tire after choosing to continue.

I fly with plenty of captains out here who brief, "if we lose an engine after V1 we'll yada yada yada, come back around, land, go get another airplane and try again." They are all ex military. Take that however you want. I don't bother correcting them during the brief, but you can be sure as hell that I'm not going back up again after something like that. Fortunately, when I did have an engine go a few months ago the captain had no plans of continuing on afterwards so it wasn't an issue, although the company did tell us they had another plane for us to take while we were taxiing in.
