So I just passed my 8th student and I am at 23 months. To get your gold seal you have to sign off 10 students and have 8 pass within 24 months. Maybe I should go down to the homeless shelter and sign off two of those guys. Doesn't matter if they pass or not.![]()

Remember it is within 24 months. I am assuming your first sign off wasn't in the first month.

There are two I *could* sign off within the next month and they might pass but I am not willing to betray my students for a gold seal.
Personally I think the Gold Seal should be eliminated as it shows no accomplishment. I respect a CFI or CFII certificate more than I would a gold seal.
The only thing it proves is that you've had more than 8 students in 2 years who passed a checkride. It shows nothing about quality of instruction, and that is the most important thing as an instructor; not a pass ratio.
The gold seal is also unfavorably biased to the pilot mill environment where students are trained and passed through the ranks quickly. Sorry, but it's just not a status symbol I value.
