Bummed about the Gold seal.

So I just passed my 8th student and I am at 23 months. To get your gold seal you have to sign off 10 students and have 8 pass within 24 months. Maybe I should go down to the homeless shelter and sign off two of those guys. Doesn't matter if they pass or not.

Just go ahead and do a renewal. Then if you can get 2 more soon you can reapply for the gold seal. You shouldn't have to do it during the renewal process.

Congrats on the 8/8.

There aren't two people you can sign off real quick? Perhaps a couple of multi add-ons?

If you do get your gold seal don't be surprised if OKC screws up and sends you a regular certificate with the black seal. Just call them up and ask them to send you a proper certificate with the gold seal. It happened to me a little while ago when I used the gold seal update as my renewal.

Remember it is within 24 months. I am assuming your first sign off wasn't in the first month. As said above, do the renewal and then go back when you get your next two and get the gold seal

Yea, I have already checked that. I am on month 23, oh well, it's just resume candy anyhow. There are two I *could* sign off within the next month and they might pass but I am not willing to betray my students for a gold seal.

There is the statement that gets you the gold seal from probably more than 1 JC member... ;) Gold seals are overrated - anyways.

Like Blackhawk said in the other thread.........your Gold Seal and $1.63 will get you a coffee at Starbucks.

Personally I think the Gold Seal should be eliminated as it shows no accomplishment. I respect a CFI or CFII certificate more than I would a gold seal.

The only thing it proves is that you've had more than 8 students in 2 years who passed a checkride. It shows nothing about quality of instruction, and that is the most important thing as an instructor; not a pass ratio.

The gold seal is also unfavorably biased to the pilot mill environment where students are trained and passed through the ranks quickly. Sorry, but it's just not a status symbol I value.

Agreed. But then, I did get mine for my first renewal (and I have never instructed at any school).
