Bringing goodies when jumpseating?

you boys sure are slippin' :p
I caught Amber's line right away since my mind is usually in the gutter, but waited to see how long it would take...Must be a JC record. :D

Yeah me too...I laughed right away. Maybe the boys were trying to be gents? :D

Exactly, proof chivalry is not gone!

Well, at least the facade of chivalry......now where's my beer woman?!? Oh ya, rub my shoulders too! hehe j/k

Here ya go darlin' (smashes beer can against "gents" head, ala John Belushi style) :D:p;)

Chivalry is dead, and women killed it (to quote dave chappelle). =)

Yeah no doubt. Between feminist extremists and shameless opportunists it's almost impossible to be a gentleman without being perceived as a scam artist.. or just weak.

RIP Chivalry.

Not so fast. There are still many women out there who appreciate and will ONLY be involved with a gentleman. Maybe you just haven't found one yet.

The death of a group can be counted with individual items, but the death of a trend just means it has to fall to a certain low level.

Maybe it's an age and maturity thing, I guess. >shrugs<

Well, if that's how many of the young women of today are, I'm glad I'm old! I feel bad for the truly nice guys out there. All I can tell you is to be yourself and hopefully you will atrract a woman who appreciates the qualities (outdated though they may be) you possess. ;)

Well, maybe it's time we brought it back.

Considering the trends of female youth are giving us Britney Spears, Lindsey Lohan, and Paris Hilton's ilk as role models.. one can only hope.

If the rest of the nation starts to buck that trend, there may be hope.

C'est la vie.

I dunno man. It seems to be done and "out of style." granted, on an FO salary back when, the "liberated" woman type wasn't bad but that's just not how I was taught to roll. I was raised as a gentleman and I will still not hear the end of it from my folks it I do something contrary to that.

It's sad because many of the young girls today don't expect to be treated that way and don't know how to handle it. I am constantly reminding my daughters that there's a right way and a wrong way to be treated. Hopefully they'll always keep that in mind. :)

Good for your parents! Remember, if you act like a "gentleman" you'll attract a "lady." If not, well, you remember what we were talking about at the LGA food court yesterday right, Ed?! ;) :D

If I ever have a daughter, I'm teaching her both sides of the fence. I may throw this in at my nieces when my sisters aren't looking, too.

Independent, self-sufficient, and unassuming on one side, but on the other hand, not above accepting gracious treatment by a gentleman.

I've always looked at it this way: A woman should be able to open her own door, pull out her own chair, and, er, say, change her own oil. That doesn't mean she should have to, though.

It is, after all, a pleasant way to let a lady know you've noticed her AND you respect her.

That's the real crux of the issue these days, I think. Women don't know how to deal with a man who will give them respect without a fight. Pity.

Damn, Charlie. You are 100% correct. My daughters have been taught both sides of the fence, as you called it. The only place you lost me was on the "changing the oil" part. After all, isn't that why men were created? :p :D

I do believe you're thinking about 'checking the oil!' :p

To a certain extent, yes.. but, an example:

Last year I was dating a woman who drove a beat up old minivan. She asked me to take a look at her tire one day because it seemed odd to her.

There were multiple splits all the way to the steel belting. In one place an entire six inch section of the entire treadwidth was shifted 45 degrees off centerline.

After close inspection, including her full-sized spare, only ONE of her tires was even close to roadworthy.

I took her down and got her a new set of tires. I was shocked by how dangerous those tires were. She drove that van on the interstate.

This is Florida, too, where good tires make all the difference in the frequent rain.
Self-sufficiency covers all aspects of life. Gender roles are creature-comforts these days. :)

Well, tires are an obvious thing and don't require any special mechanical knowledge. Even I can tell when one is dangerously worn. I was referring to the inner workings of a car. I wouldn't even attempt to figure that out. Hence, men are a nice thing to have around. ;)
