Breitling Navtimer or Rolex GMT

If you want to save on a Breitling go to Charlotte Ameile, in St. Thomas. You can get the watch of your choice for a fraction of the price in the states.

If Cape Air sends me down to the caribbean, I definately plan on shopping around for one.

Are you sure they are the real thing? Normally, aside from taxes, the price for the real article on this type of thing is set at a world-wide standard. You have to be very careful as there are some really impressive copies out there.

I'm thinking of buying either a stainless steel Rolex GMT-II or a Breitling Navtimer. They are more or less the same price. Any preference? Any other suggestions?

I bought my rolex submariner in 2004 for $3800. It retailed for $4250. I went in the other day to look for one for the future mrs, and it now retails for $5750. It's an investment. I could turn around and sell it for the same price I paid for it, if not close to it.

Different strokes for different folks. I sometimes look at legacy captains making $$$ wearing $20 timex watches wondering why they don't invest in a nice watch. So it goes both ways.

So do they make smaller, feminine versions of these here pilot watches?

Yes, as I posted, my sister-in-law who works for Torneau, gave my wife a Breitling woman's watch for her birthday. They even have versions with diamonds on them (that's not the one she got--she got the pauper $2,500 retail model--discounted to an employee).

Because you can get a better ROI with some smart investments.

I like SWATCH.. Although the one I had broke, had it since I was like 14. So now I just wear a $15 dollar watch. It tells me what time it is and I don't cry if I scratch it.

Rolex GMT for me no questions asked holds it value, looks great, wonderful heirloom, and great history. It was designed in collaboration with Pan Am, google the history of the GMT some wonderful stories. Next up if you don’t wish to spend that much money look into the Omega Sea Master M 300 (GMT) it’s another great watch that I prefer over the Breitling.

Most of all if you are looking at buying a watch of this category make sure to vist an authorized dealer preferably your local mom and pop high end jewelry store as they will take time to try on several different watches and developing a relationship with them is key. Local mom and pop places usually go out of there way to help you pre-sale and post sale unlike most big chains that help more on the pre-sale side. Just remember when buying a watch like this you are spending a lot of money make sure to watch after your money! I will not go as far to say it’s an investment but every Omega and Breitling I have owned has lost money the Rolex, Patek and a few others will at least hold their value if not raise. Just make sure to take your time on the purchase and you should also never feel rushed to complete the purchase if you are find another retailer. Feel free to ask me any questions on here or via PM I would be more then happy to answer.

"Real" pilots wear this:

Breitling Aerospace

Really, for the same amount of money,
pilots can buy a hundred of these:

You don't buy a rolex let alone any watch for a ROI. It's just nice knowing it holds its value unlike cheaper watches that are a dime a dozen.

I don't wear a watch for it to hold it's value, I wear a watch so I know what time it is. As long as the watch can hold the correct time, I really don't care what it looks like. If it craps out, it's easy to replace. For me, it's all about utility. I don't even wear a watch when I'm not at work.

To tell the truth, I have more important things to spend my money on.

Currently I have a Swiss Army watch that my girlfriend gave me. Its a freakin tank, a little pricer than I would have paid for a watch though. Ive never even used the chrono thing.

I've had one of these for the past few years and they are indeed great watches.
