Bose vs Lightspeed vs ??

If your airline's Flight Operations Manual says no non-TSOed headsets, then that's pretty much saying no.

If you are getting line checked by a Fed, and you go against the FOM, he's going to have a problem with you doing it, no matter what it is.

If your particular airline is good with it, then have at it. At our shop, it isn't, and definitely not a hill worth dying on.

I've heard of guys where I work using non-tso headsets and then if a fed/management type rides along they use the ship set. Or so I've been told..

I went and tried them all on today and decided on the Bose.

It fit my head the best and felt more comfortable of all.

Didn't hurt I found a smoking deal on one, possibly two sets!

Thanks everyone for the replies and discussion.

After having now owned both headsets for long enough to get a good feel for them, here are my thoughts:
(Zulu 3 vs. A20)

Sound quality and ANR of Lightspeed is excellent
Sound quality and ANR of Bose is amazing, probably slightly better

Comfort of Lightspeed is great
Comfort of Bose is mediocre

If I had to choose at the same price point, I would choose Lightspeed. The difference in price makes the answer all that much more obvious. Unfortunately I sold my Zulu 3 and got an A20 which I use now bc TSO.

Edit: almost forgot, customer service of Lightspeed is the best I've found anywhere. Haven't had any interaction with Bose customer service yet, so I can't speak to it.

I spent the schekles to upgrade my Zulu 2 to the 3. $200 and took 10 days. Headset came back like new.

Personally I can't really tell the difference in performance over the 2, but the new cord/box setup is nicer and the materials seem higher quality.

The only difference between the Zulu 2 and Zulu 3 is the cord and the coating on the battery box. ANR is the same. The Kevlar cord is worth the upgrade though.

I've got to send my Zulu 1 in for repair. The plastic coating as turned to this gooey, flakey slime, and the cord is frayed in a couple of places. They nominally charge $100, but I'm asking myself if it's worth it to just to take the trade in value towards a new Zulu 3.

Honestly, I can't tell the difference in the ANR in my 1, (now) 3 and my ancient DC 10-30 with the aftermarket ANR kit I put in myself.
