If your airline's Flight Operations Manual says no non-TSOed headsets, then that's pretty much saying no.
If you are getting line checked by a Fed, and you go against the FOM, he's going to have a problem with you doing it, no matter what it is.
If your particular airline is good with it, then have at it. At our shop, it isn't, and definitely not a hill worth dying on.
I spent the schekles to upgrade my Zulu 2 to the 3. $200 and took 10 days. Headset came back like new.
Personally I can't really tell the difference in performance over the 2, but the new cord/box setup is nicer and the materials seem higher quality.
