Bose A30

Y’all know they make inner-ear noise canceling headphones for deadheading in back right? And they fit in your pocket in a little charging case no problem. And they’re phenomenal. I use the Sony WF-1000XM4. Love them.
Love mine as well. After a couple hours my ears itch, but still love them. We will see how the XM5 looks.

It doesn't. The closest thing is a QC-35 with the aftermarket mic rig... the QC-45 would have been perfect, but for the 'side tone'/echo issue. I was really hoping that the new Bose would address all these issues. Nope. (Why was the 45's perfect... USB-C, battery life)

Airbus pilots want what I want. A rig that can be used up front and in the back and doesn't take up space. I'm carrying around 2 headsets now, the proflight and a QC-45 in the proflight case. So annoying. For GA I need to just referb my old X's/A-20's, I have both the 5 pin plug and the 2-plug rig for those. It's my earphones that failed.

Sadly, the only answer is carrying multiple headsets. The Apple AirPod pro's are great for DH's also, but nothing says "leave me alone" while DH'ing like a nice pair of over the ear headphones.

Yep, that's exactly what I've been trying to come up with for the bus. My Sennheiser ANCs are getting very long in the tooth. So I was looking for a jack-of-all-trades to replace it. Wanted a headset for commuting/deadheading that could also be used up front. Wound up going with QC-45 with an Nflight mic. So far, I'm not all that happy with it but I've only had this setup for a month now. The QC-45s are great. The Nflight mic workaround seems less than ideal. So I may wind up carrying two headsets. Keep the QC-45s and buy another aviation headset. Which is super annoying since I JUST spent a good chuck of change getting this set up and I want to reduce what I'm carrying, not add more to it.

I have an older version of these. My biggest complaint about them is they don't stay in my ears. Any type of movement or longer wear times and they're falling out. They are the other reason why I'm in the search for a new setup.

Keep an eye out for the new model, which is supposed to be smaller. I am hoping it fixes that issue, because I have the same problem.

Is anyone on this board as frugal and, er IDK, rugged, as I?

I just carry a set (3-5 sets, really) of free-from-the-FBO, soft-polymer ear plugs and then use whatever POS headset happens to be in the plane.

Saves money. Also helps with developing stark bio-immunities.

Anyone else?

Bueller?

Gross, nope.

Don't use the word rugged in place of the word cheap...

Re: "Gross, nope." BIG, general idea, yes. Obvious, yes. ...You're correct, it is "gross".

Re: "rugged" vs "cheap". You must have lost SA in your skim. Both terms were clearly stated, the one you focused on stated first.

I'm proud of being "cheap". Evolutionarily speaking, being "cheap" (thriving with less) is almost always a huge advantage. Thus construed, it's almost a perfect synonym for "rugged". (What a rugged critter; That critter can make it through the whole desert on one drink. That critter would be a cheap date.)

Re: your statement on "redundancy" (above). You know what's better than redundancy? Ruggedness and (Dare I say it?) cheapness, in both the primary and the backup.

Why must you use italic and bold fonts? It does zero for your posts. Hell, half the folks, including myself have no idea what you're rambling on about.
