Tell me why in the name of all that is Holy would I continue to structure my company in such a way as to allow unions to dictate how my business is run, particularly after the unions do everything in their power to either A) transfer all profit from me to them, or B) put me out of business. Damn right I'd be moving to a state where the laws are more business friendly.

I am learning a lot from you pro-union guys. I don't see how you guys can win unless we have tariffs against cheap foreign/slave labor since that constantly undercuts your strength.
I know if/when I decide to go to the airlines, I will join a union if that is what the accepted culture is. So, you have already had some effect.

Beasly, it all comes down to education. As long as the dwindling middle class in this country perceives that it's in their own best interest to continue shopping at places such as Walmart because cheap prices beat out American-made, you're correct. Let us just hope that at some point they wake up before it's too late and realize that kind of thinking endangers nearly all middle-class jobs in this country.
There truly is a high cost to low prices, and that cancer is spreading throughout the entire country.

I'm not out to change minds, because anti-unionism is just far too rife in this country and most of those with that attitude get their "opinion" from talk radio and Fox News without bothering to find out the facts. You can't fight that.
I just hope I won't be able to say, "I told you so," before enough of these people wake up to what's truly happening.

Based on my experience working in a union shop, those people that don't want to join the union are "scabs" or "traitors". I've seen the treatment of workers and fellow employess by the group that "represents us all". So when a pilot is hired, he has no choice but to join the union, whether he believes he's getting fair representation or not.
It would be nice if all of you would do the math on your dues. The shop I was in generated $200,000+ per MONTH to the union. Someone is making some serious coin at the expense of the worker. Was I seeing the return for my investment? not at all.
I find it interesting that you want the government to stay out of your business but the majority of your dues go to lobbying congress to pass bills that favor unions. I'm all for Boeing moving thier ENTIRE operation out of Washington if they feel they need to. [I'm just glad they are keeping it here in the U.S.] They made a point with Spirit and they are making a point with this move too.

It's amazing to me that no one seems to understand that every big business that ever existed started off as a small business. The topic of this thread started in a barn, and through a combination of hard work, innovation, proper leveraging of their assets, and a little bit of luck, they have grown into the giant that they are today. Yet somewhere during the transition from small to big, line, they became an "evil corporation." Yet, they are fundamentally doing nothing today that they weren't doing 100 years ago, just on a bigger scale. But instead of celebrating them as an American success story, we villify them and act as though we are somehow their victims. Well, maybe that's the way you view your life, but it's not how I view mine.

People are going to keep shopping at WalMart because of the convenience, regardless. With the number of WalMarts and the vast number of people willing to shop at them and the vast amount of things they offer for sale, its going to be tough to get people to not shop at them on principle.
Same as with regional airlines. The worst ones out there with the worst pay and QOL still have no problem finding applicants. In fact, there are pilots out there willing to work for less than offered. As a practical matter then, why should (and how can) anything change regards the crappy conditions and pay at airline x?

Specifically, what governmental intrusion and laws require executives to take multi-million dollar bonuses, even when they drive their businesses off a cliff? Which law is it that required AIG and bank execs after the financial meltdown in late 2008 to get said bonuses even after they got bailed out with tax dollars because they were, "Too big to fail?" Which law is it that required the average S&P 500 exec to earn in 2007 344 times the pay of the average American worker?
Specific cites will be greatly appreciated. Meanwhile, the above examples look to me suspiciously like a LACK of government oversight rather than intrusive government regulation. Buy, hey, YMMV.
