Boeing IAM Strike

So you went to a Kawasaki dealer at 14 years old and bought a GPZ on credit without a job or a co-signer?

No, I joined NFCU when I was 14. I bought the bike when I was 21. I was a full time college student and working at UPS part-time.

I mentioned the age I joined NFCU because it was relevant, I had been a member for 7 years when I bought the bike. It was actually the second vehicle I financed with NFCU. I financed $1600 to buy a used Dodge Colt.

Was it a GPZ or a Ninja 250? No shame, I like Ninja 250s. You financed a Dodge Colt? Who roped you into that fiasco? I'm sure your financial acumen has been sharpened from that experience. Was it a turbo?

Actually, it was a used GPZ Turbo 750. Mav rode a 900 in the movie.
Mav didn't ride anything, Mav is a fictional character and he was sitting on a bike on a trailer. I love Top Gun, but it's not a factual documentary. And why would you buy a motorcycle with a turbo? Even at that young age I knew that was more complication than I wanted to sink my teeth into.

The Dodge Colt was a Mitsubishi and it was awesome.

At that time, I was shocked that I could afford the fastest bike in production. Even today, the GPZ 750 numbers look good.

I understand fictional characters.

I drove a '79 Ford Fiesta for a while and while it was not entirely bereft of good times it was really only good at basic commuting for the least amount of expense. And then I got a truck and I haven't looked back in almost four decades. Pretending a Dodge Colt was a Mitsubishi WRX seems like a teen fantasy. Did you put any stickers on it?

I mean I drove a '79 Honda Civic covered in house paint like I stole it. I was fookin Kimi Raikkonnen in that thing. Not the size of the dog in the car, it's the size of the car...no hang on, I'll get it here in a second.

Dodge Colts were produced by Mitsubishi. Mitsubishi WRX’s were produced by Subaru. :)

It had a college parking permit and OBX sticker. It never broke down despite my poor treatment.

This is a convoluted trail of supposed automotive valor. You believe your Dodge Colt was somehow related to a Subaru WRX. If that makes you happy I don't want to break that glass. The aluminum block in the Fiesta was the basis for the IMSA Ford Probe GTP engine effort back in the early '80s, they wanted to prove something about small engines and big horsepower. It didn't end well.

Someone has DARED to impugn the quality of Mitsubishi?

Mine looked just like this stock photo. It was simple and reliable. Four cylinder, four speed.

I was joking with you, you referenced a “Mitsubishi WRX” in your post. Was that a mistake or were you joking? I responded as
if you just made a mistake, thus the emoji.

I said my Colt was awesome. It was slow and reliable.

This line of thought is something I can absolutely endorse. No one has ever accused an '84 Toyota 4X4 truck of having outrun them in any sort of race, but it always finishes the race even if it's an hour or a day later. I think the most important factor when buying a vehicle should be reliability, it doesn't matter how sexy it looks or how fast it can go from 0-60 if it won't start when you really need it. Maybe the Dodge Colt is overlooked as a quality vehicle, reminiscent of the Ford Fiesta. Nope. Good luck finding a decent example of either these days. These were basically throw away cars, they were reasonably proficient at their task but they weren't built to last. If you have your Dodge Colt and it's not a rust heap you might have a treasure, probably not.

It's like all of the gun-fetishests and their freaking Kimbers. Just buy a Glock, or a Sig if you don't like the way the Glock points. No Rosewood Grips, no Ninja Sights. It's a freaking appliance.
I have a Glock 23 and a Colt 1911. Suck it.

I hope you understand I'm trying to play off the ignorance of of most folks. I also have an an S&W MP-15 and a Ruger Hawkeye. I've no intention of selling anything.

I kinda think of my Colt as a Ford Escort with a better engine and gearbox. Just about everything in that era had a limited lifespan. Rust and lack of charisma doomed most.
