The Blue Angels and Thunderbirds are an awesome way to feel totally inept as a pilot.
When I passed my commercial pilot checkride I was on top of the world. I was a "commercial pilot". I can fly for money now....sort of.
Went to an air show the next day and saw the Blue Angels perform.
...God I suck.

Recognized as what?
I've had the opportunity to fly in some very high-dollar, very high fidelity fighter simulators, and none of them even approached the difficulty of actually flying the real aircraft and performing a mission with it.

My 12 yr old does the virtual thing. He learned a lot about the industry and I must doff the ole hat to the guys that do some of that stuff. Pretty cool. Then again, my kid can fly MS flite sim a heck of a lot better than I can, but I have to caution him that it isn't really the same thing. That said, I am not knocking it.

Yeah I know. These virtual contractual problems are becoming painful.
The virtual NMB just released our virtual pilot group, giving us 30 days cooling off. Standby for informational picketing to occur on Facebook.
Be ready for a virtual strike to occur at this virtual airline.
The virtual flying public doesn't even want to consider the ramifications of that.
I told my virtual pilot group to prepare for possible furloughs, as the virtual management is known for dirty tricks like that.
This could get messy........but I assure you, we're working on raising the bar.

:dunno: I don't understand why so sarcastic about this.
I'm not talking about virtual airlines, as virtual airlines, for the most part, are a joke. What we do is a totally different genre.
A lot of these teams are LLC's, with contractual obligations to many companies, not just a group of kids trying to do something on a simulator.
I understand the simulators have a bad rap around JC, because of the "I'm a captain for virtual NWA (kestrel)" trying to talk about how I know things about flying a real jet because of their virtual flying. That's not what virtual aerobatics is.
I learned my basics in aerobatics through flying the simulator, and it helped immensely when I started doing aerobatics.

This is exactly what the simulators should be used for, bringing kids into it. You're a pilot, so he's been around it, but for some kids who dream of flying, but are too young, or aren't in a position financially to fly, this is a way for them to at least get a taste of it, and learn some of the basics needed for aviation.

I guess that depends on what your interpretation of the "basics" is. There is not a sim I have ever used (to include the actual T-45C and F/A-18C OFT sims) that will properly teach the skills needed to fly good form or aerobatics. It's all about feel and applied technique, and those are things that even the most high fidelity sims can't really recreate. They might demonstrate the really big picture of things, like what a maneuver should look like, but the monkey skills are very different in the real thing.
I'm just making sarcastic jokes about virtual airlines; has nothing to do with your posts and aren't a jab at you at all. In fact, I'm combining virtual airlines with real-world problems in the industry and meshing the two for fun.

Alright, wanted to be sure. I completely saw the humor in it, I just wanted to bring my point across and make sure I didn't sound like "I'm a captain for Virtual NWA"

My poor kid got virtually kicked to the virtual curb for virtually nothing. He couldn't meet his virtual minimums due to school and soccer. Can you get him virtually reinstated?
