What's this anti-bird strike technology?
What's this anti-bird strike technology?
haha, that'd just attract more pilots ha haA shotgun and a cooler of beer.
I suppose I should have posted more. There was bird (goose) DNA found on the wing when they examined it.
UND's paper had an article about it in April. http://www.dakotastudent.com/home/i...story_id=0091a229-9507-471a-8caa-b4f5f74fd311
We had a thread on it in the UND forum, I'll try to dig it up.....here ya go. http://forums.jetcareers.com/university-of-north-dakota/53957-plane-missing.html
I'll tell you one thing. You will probably develop a slight anxiety disorder in regards to this happening again. I know I did. I get very nervous when I see a bird in the vicinity of my plane. But I convinced myself that there is really nothing I can do to prevent a bird strike, because I never even saw the bird when it happened to me. Just be prepared to handle the situation and keep your cool.
We have lots of geese at KPAO. So the management put stuffed coyotes by the runway. It worked... for about a week. There's "bird activity" in every ATIS now. Of course, when I saw them the first time:
me: "tower, there's a mean looking coyote by the runway"
tower: "yes, we put them there to scare the birds, it doesn't work anymore though"
me: "it works on me for sure"
Those air cannons also have another use. . .dispersing fog. Not so frequent here in the states, but it's airport crack for Airport management and directors in Europe.
