Bill introduced to ban federal employee unions

Well, benefits lost, people seek other employment, KCM dead.

KCM dies, pilots back to the main security line, understaffed and delays increase.

It's like elder care, no one is going to do that job because they love it, they do it because there is a financial incentive to do it.

If anyone thinks the attack on labor stops with the TSA, well... Uh... LOL. Who doesn't have a contract amendable in the next four years? I know my pilot group does.

It'll turn into trucking. I'll fly for $300/hr, next guy says I'll fly for $299/hr, next guy says I'll fly for $298/hr and then it just starts to circle the drain as people undercut each other, to the point where personal margins are down to nothing. Which is how we ended up with people driving big rigs for 700 bucks a week.
So every other facet of aviation?

That’s why it’s so infuriating retired airline pilots are the worts offenders when they start contacting or trying to get a part time gig “just for beer money.”

Oh poor @derg. You have forgotten who the new head of the FAA is and how he will have to placate to Trump. The simple solution is to change the FAR's that will make your duty time begin at pushback. See! Problem solved.

You remember all those ALPA-MAGA's that walked out of Secretary Buttigieg? Do you think that they will be willing to put their foot down about regulatory changes? Probably not.

Point of order... it was Liz Shuler at AFL-CIO.

Will people be waiting for you in the parking lot at end of trip? 😆
It got very contentious at my shop on the 737 "A" side in NYC two summers ago, almost to the point where people were outed by name on the interwebz- for calling scheduling and volunteering for premium pay flying- and scheduling was thirsty for the manpower since NYC is in daily meltdown summer afternoons...

Oh god no, ALPA national is supplicant and passive all of a sudden. They’re a noun, a verb and AIRPLANES NEED TWO PILOTS! as the general public attacks the dues-paying ALPA members because of their backgrounds and a reality TV star gets installed in the DOT and a persona non grata as head of the FAA.

But…. JETS NEED TWO PILATTTS!

Don't get me wrong... I'm an ally and I don't keep my mouth shut anymore when somebody decides to make their stupidity known to everyone...

But one of those things is ignorant dumb asses verbally attacking the qualifications of some fellow pilots because of the color of their skin or their gender, and the other is the potential loss of half (or eventually all) pilot jobs.

Edit... and the correct response to this post is, well, why not both? And I have no response to that other than I'm not fully sure that those dumb asses aren't actually a near majority within our own ranks.

They can do both.

The silence is deafening.

I dunno. Politics is ugly.

Pragmatically I'd rather have the silence then end up with United's recently deposed MEC Chair running things. I sure as hell don't feel good about it, but until you find a way to mobilize the masses to prevent realistic threats, I don't see an alternative than some level of neutrality on none legislative issues. Which sucks because it feels like we are falling backwards rather quickly.

It's the same thing we saw with a lot of supporters of Gaza. They blackballed Biden for allowing what they felt was a genocide, which pretty directly contributed to Trump getting elected... who is now rubber stamping the continuation of what they feel is an even worse (as if there are levels!) genocide.
